'Help my Love' - Theodora

Meet Miss Theodora Imonikhe, a 9ja artist repping us in Malaysia just like the Afro Asian Brothazz. Not only does she have a sweet voice, she has a sweet personality and kind heart. In simple words, she is a blessing to this generation.

Read the questionnaire (below) to know more about her and her music. This were questions she answered at a recent interview (not by us) but she said it was okay to share it with you all so yayyyy!

1. Tell us a bit about your song

The title of my song is Help my Love, it talks about love being something to be cherished, protected and cared for, not something to be handled lightly or stepped on. Lines like ‘Help my Love for you to grow daily….don’t let it fade away’ amongst others explain this.

2. Where did you get your inspirations for your song?

I wrote this song at a time in my life where I was mourning the loss of a loved one, my Dad to be exact. I missed him everyday…still miss him. And wrote this song as a kind of dedication to him. But this is a song that cuts across every circumstance, background and age group.

3. How long did writing, recording process take?

Not too long. The writing took longer. Because inspiration for the second verse just won’t come! So I got stuck! Lol. But at the end the song was arranged and the recording was done quickly as well so….

4. What are your musical influences?

A lot of people have influenced me over the years…but currently three women inspire me… Beyonce, Yolanda Adams and Nigeria’s TY Bello.

5. Tell us a bit about your personality and what defines your musical character?

I see myself as an extrovert….but my friends would beg to differ….and describe me as reserved, definitely am happiest when performing on stage. Just me and the music….music is what I breathe…I refuse to define myself musically really…because I feel to define would be to limit myself n as far as am concerned there is always room for improvement.

Personally I also believe music is not just to entertain people but to bring hope, warmth and life to an otherwise dull world. Also music is a great tool for addressing various wrongs and inequalities in our society. So am very involved in NGOs especially in my home country Nigeria, with the closest to my heart at the moment, being Place of Refuge Ministries, their vision is to provide housing for the less privileged, their headquarters is in Ibadan Nigeria, providing temporary lodging and sometimes even permanent accommodation for the downtrodden, I do try to contribute to the vision by creating awareness when I go anywhere to perform. Another project close to my heart is my very own organization Theodora Imonikhe Evangelical Ministries (TIEM) it involves high school kids. My team and I go round the high schools and recruit as many students as we can for free dance and music classes, and then hold concerts for them showcasing all they have learnt. It gives them a healthy self esteem from an early age. And hopefully keeps them away from questionable influences.

Lastly all the profits made from Help My Love here in Malaysia go to the recent earthquake victims in Indonesia.

6. When did you discover you can sing?

I dunno exactly, I have been singing for as far back as I can remember...my earliest memory of singing was after watching Julie Andrews in Sound of Music, I decided I wanted to dance n sing just like her… I think 8 years old then. But just before coming to Malaysia my mum dug up dis picture she took wen I was 5 or 6yrs old. And I was with the microphone n singing to the kids in my neighborhood….so yea ave been singing for a long time.

7. Tell us something about yourself no one else knows

Hmnnn…sometimes when am engrossed in something like reading a book or composing, I chew my teeth. It's this grinding sound….eerkk!! It's a very irritating habit and I'm not so proud of it.
