While at the university, Genevieve began auditioning for acting jobs among the many Nollywood productions. Nnaji started her acting career as a child actress in the then-popular television soap opera "Ripples" at the age of 8. She was also featured in several commercials, some of which included Pronto beverage and Omo detergent. In 2004, she became the face of Lux soap in a highly lucrative sponsorship deal. In 1998, at the age of 19, she made her debut in the growing Nigerian film industry with the movie "Most Wanted." Her subsequent movies include "Last Party," "Mark of the Beast," and "Ijele."

Genevieve Nnaji speaks on Mirror Boy

Actress, Genevieve Nnaji during the week revealed that she was fascinated by the simplicity of the story of Mirror Boy and the determination of the producer and director, Obi Emelonye to do something ‘special’ and the success of the movie in UK, Ghana and presently Nigeria has justified her choice.

“I was impressed with the way the writer spin a whole lot around of a simple story of mother and child and a spirit. It is told in such a way that you feel the three distinct characters. You feel the pain of a mother whose child is missing, you feel the trouble of an African boy born in Uk in search of identity and you feel the emotion of a reincarnated father who doesn’t want his biological child lost on the world of ‘missed identity’. It is the kind of story that touches you from the screen so I am not surprised at the success so far at the cinema’.

Mirror Boy which has been at Nigerian cinemas for four weeks running have so far grossed over N15 million and it sets the enviable record of being the highest selling Nollywood movie in Ghana and the longest running movie by any African in UK cinema.

The movie which was shot in Gambia features Genevieve Nnaji, Osita Iheme, and a Gambian star.

The Mirror Boy’ is an enthralling journey as seen through the eyes of a London- born 12 year old African boy, Tijani. After a London street fight on 13th of June, in which a local boy is hurt, Tijan's mother decides to take him back their roots, to Gambia. On their arrival in Banjul, Tijan encounters a strange apparition, a boy smiling at him in a mirror and vanishing. Seeing the same boy in a crowded street market the next day sets in motion a chain of events, with Tijan finding himself lost. While Tijan's panic-stricken mother struggles to find her son, Tijan is left alone in the company of the enigmatic Mirror Boy, seemingly only visible to him. A cathartic climax helps TIJANI to unravel the mystery of the MIRROR BOY. It also provides him with a rather mystical explanation for the way his life has cascaded from the 13th of June towards this inter-twined fate with a father he has never met.

HIGH EXPECTATIONS AS MIRROR BOY PREMIERES AUGUST 5

... Genevieve confesses, ‘Mirror Boy’ premiere at the Empire Leicester Square in London, UK, is the biggest premiere I ever attended.

As countdown begins to August 5, 2011, the premiere date of the highly publicized ‘Mirror Boy’, tongues have not stopped wagging. A lot of people cannot wait to see what made the movie so thick especially in terms of all the international records accrued so far.

Already generating a lot of buzz amongst nollywood stakeholders and the media, speculations are high that the ‘Mirror Boy’ premiere is going to be another constellation of stars and celebrities.

‘Mirror Boy’ was written, produced and directed by Obi Emelonye and it features Nollywood’s finest, Genevieve Nnaji and Osita Iheme.

Highly passionate about ‘Mirror Boy’, Genevieve Nnaji speaking at the Mirror Boy premiere in Empire Leicester Square, London, UK said it was the biggest premiere she had ever attended and is very proud to be a part of the movie.

Osita Iheme another strong character in the movie said ‘my role in ‘Mirror Boy’ was a very challenging one but that did not make me less excited about the movie. Knowing Nollywood so well and having seen ‘Mirror Boy’ I have no doubt that the movie will be a hit’

Obi Emelonye speaking on the movie said ‘I am really looking forward to the ‘Mirror Boy’ premiere in Nigeria, it is a home coming for ‘Mirror Boy’ and the amount of support and accolades we have been getting tells me I am not the only one excited about the movie, Nigerians are too’.

THE GRAND PREMIERE OF ‘BENT ARROWS’

Stella Damacus, Genevieve, Omoni Oboli, The CEO of Stingomania, Mr Ope Banwo, Lancelot Imaseun the director of the movie, Desmond Elliot, Cobhams Asuquo, Chelsea Eze, Kene Mpakru are but few of the dignitaries that graced the ‘Bent Arrows’ premiere at the Silverbird Galleria on Thursday April 14, 2011.

The event started with dapperly looking guests and celebrities bringing on poise and style on the red carpet while paparazzi and the press had a field day mingling with the stars and taking pictures.

The premiere proper began in a packed full hall with the introductions of the producer, director and some of the cast of the movie. The audience obviously captivated by the storyline of the movie was quiet for most of the movie except for some various interventions of claps and uproar of laughter. Once the movie ended guests were on their feet clapping and commending the producer for a job well done.

While we thought that was the end of the show for the night, Cobhams Asuquo who produced the independent soundtrack album for ‘Bent Arrows’ came on stage and treated the stars and guests a wonderful rendition of the soundtracks of the movie. Stella Damasus who also featured in the soundtrack album of ‘Bent Arrows’, took over the stage after Cobhams and gave a great performance that left the audience spellbound.

The event was wrapped up with the writer and producer of the film Isang, Ubong Awah giving a vote of thanks to everyone present and sating that the story of ‘Bent Arrows’ is a reality that stares at us everyday with a lot of our young girls going out there without the fear of God in their hearts.

Available in cinemas across the country from April 15, 2011, ‘Bent Arrows’ tells the story of three young ladies and their trials in the hands of men, parents and the society and how it affects their individual life. The movie brings to mind the ills of the society against women and the undue parental intervention in the lives of young women and the ills of sexual abuse on young women.
