HOW BAD IS IT TO FALL ASLEEP WITH MAKEUP ON?

Ideally, our nighttime routine involves a warm cup of tea, a hot shower, and a good book. The reality: dozing off in front of late-night TV then dragging our bleary-eyed selves to bed. Whether the result of a few too many drinks, exhaustion, or pure laziness, we’ve all had those nights when washing our face just isn’t going to happen. But is it really that bad?

The Need-to-Know

All signs point to yes. “It’s one of the worst things we can do,” saysJoel Schlessinger, M.D., a dermatologist and RealSelf contributor. Throughout the day, your makeup picks up harmful free radicalsfrom the air. These unstable molecules break down the collagen in your skin and speed up the aging process, Schlessinger explains. Not washing them away at night gives them time to do their dirty work as you sleep.
Basically, it’s enemy No. 1 for clear, smooth skin. “There’s truth to the phrase ‘beauty sleep,’” says Whitney Bowe, M.D., a dermatologist in New York City. Sleeping in makeup traps in oil, which leads to bacteria build-up and breakouts. Removing it, on the other hand, gives your skin a clean palette for any nighttime products to soak in.

The Culprits

All types of makeup can cause damage, but some are worse than others. “Foundations and primers, especially oil based, can block pores and deter your skin from breathing,” Bowe says.
Concealer tends to aggravate acne, Schlessinger says—which is a cruel and unusual punishment, since you’re likely using it to cover up blemishes in the first place. And leaving lipstick on can result in chapped, dry lips.
Your lashes aren’t safe either. “Leaving mascara on overnight can cause eyelashes to become brittle, break easily, and even shed faster,” Schlessinger says. Eye makeup can also lead to irritation or even more serious eye infections, like conjunctivitis, if particles make their way into your eyes as you’re tossing and turning. Yuck.

What If It Happens?

Don't beat yourself up—it doesn’t mean you’ve done irreversible damage: “Skin does have a natural resiliency to environmental stress and damage, so it will protect itself to a certain extent,” Bowe says. Just don’t make it a habit. Although one time won't do damage, eventually premature aging will set in, Schlessinger says.
Your morning-after action plan: Wash your face twice instead of once, Bowe suggests, and apply a face mask to add back some moisture if you have time. Another good call: Wash your pillowcase before getting back in bed, since leftover makeup and bacteria will likely linger.
For an occasional quick fix, store makeup-removing wipes, like Josie Maran’s Bear Naked Wipes ($12; josiemarancosmetics.com), on your nightstand, Bowe suggests. Just don’t rely on them every night. “They aren’t as effective as washing your face with a cleanser,” she says. Still, they may serve as a nightly reminder to head to the bathroom for a more thorough cleanse.
You can also try a cleansing “water” that remove impurities and makeup—without the need for actual H2O.

OLUCHI, AGBANI WELCOME NEW STUDENTS INTO NATURES GENTLE TOUCH HAIR INSTITUTE

Ambassadors for Natures Gentle Touch Agbani Darego and Oluchi welcomed new students into the Natures Gentle Touch Hair Institute a few days back. At an induction ceremony at the institute’s premises, the international supermodels informed the students on the huge financial opportunities in being professional hair stylists and advised them to make the best out of the opportunities that await them over the course of their training and after.

The ambassadors, who have worked with various renowned stylists from all over the world also gave the students tips on how to become successful professionals in the beauty and personal style industry. Delighted at the opportunity of meeting Nigeria’s famous Supermodels, the students used the avenue to tap into the experiences of these renowned style icons. There was a question and answer session as well as a one-on-one interaction between the students and the brand ambassadors. Within the few hours that the engagement took place, a wealth of knowledge and inside tips were shared with the students by Oluchi and Agbani Darego who matched the students curiosity and enthusiasm with their eagerness to share and impact knowledge from their wealth of experience.

Natures Gentle Touch Hair Institute recently admitted a fresh batch of students who upon graduation will earn diplomas in Hair Designing and Artistry. The aspiring stylists came from different works of life and from different places, some as far as Port-Harcourt. Over a period of eight months they would be taught by accomplished hair stylists and instructors from different parts of the world. These instructors would deliver courses that are practical-oriented and rich in the latest hair care technology solutions and treatment.

Since it began operations in 2009, Natures Gentle Touch Hair Institute has trained over 50 hair stylists who have gone ahead to establish successful careers, some of them beyond Nigeria.

The Institute offers courses for both practicing Stylists and those without any prior knowledge in the industry. During theoretical sessions, the students are exposed to hair chemistry, salon management, client care and consultations, while the practical sessions include styling techniques, chemical application, cutting techniques and other subjects. Short courses for practicing professionals run between 2 days to 4 weeks depending on the program, some of which might include advanced hair cutting, salon management and image management. The Natures Gentle Touch Hair Institute was established by personal style brand, Recare Limited to bridge the gap in beauty and style knowledge as well as offer a platform to empower individuals with practical skills that will give them a future and enable them to have a life.

How to Apply Makeup to Achieve a Natural Look

Make up does not have to be overdone. This system of applying makeup for a natural look is fast and easy when you get the hang of it. Here are a few steps that you can do on a daily basis to achieve a clean, natural look.

Things You'll Need:

* Blush
* Blush Brush
* Eye Shadow
* Eyeliners
* Face Powder
* Foundation
* Lip Gloss
* Lipstick
* Makeup Brushes
* Mascara
* Foundation
* Lipstick

Step 1

Understand that a 'natural' look is one that uses colors that are right for your skin tone. How much you use, and where, depends on your personal style.

Step 2

Make sure your concealer is yellow in tone since it mutes imperfections without adding color, giving your skin a natural look.

Step 3

Apply foundation that matches your skin tone. The right foundation will seem to disappear on your face. If you are African-American, it's a good idea to have light, medium and dark shades of your foundation to allow for different gradations of color on different parts of your face.

Step 4

Apply eye makeup in earthy tones'beige, brown, gold or plum for shadows and brown and charcoal gray for liner and mascara. Skip liner or shadow entirely if you want to keep makeup light.

Step 5

Choose a blush color that is close to the color of your cheeks after you've exercised.

Be an eye popper with that mascara

When you apply your mascara, begin at the base of your lashes and As you move the wand up, wiggle it from side to side to get the most coverage. Use a combination of lengthening and thickening mascara to give your lashes the biggest boost.

For everyday wear, brown and black mascaras get the job done nicely.

Accentuate that Socket + Mourning Makeup tips

When it comes to eye makeup, the eyebrows make an important impression. They frame the eye and give the face a polished look.Here are a few tips for you...

1. The most elegant brow is elongated, clean and simple.
2.Be careful about the distance between the brows and the length of the brows.
3.Always pluck your eyebrows in between.

"Barack O’Grin is gone.We all mourn the loss of this rising star DA GRIN. This indeed is a sad period for us all, but it doesn’t mean we should go about with long drawn faces looking like the sky has fallen atop our heads and let loose a torrent of distaste on our sad faces. So here are some tips to help get you through this period of mourning." - TARA

  • During mourning it’s always best to go for, and with a demure look, looking sober doesn’t necessarily involve tears and wailing... it can also mean just a touch of the right makeup. · Use foundation and blusher to accentuate the face but not mask and make scary...these two can go together with a clear or nude gloss

  • Ideally eye makeup should be avoided ‘cos tearing will make mascara eyeliner run. For the best results use water proof mascara and eyeliner. If you must use eye shadow, then make sure you use demure colours that are dark but elegant. Please stay away from the dramatic look bordering on theatrical makeup...subtlety is best

  • The best look for this period though is one with a touch of powder and a little lip colour...this will win hearts over as being respectful to the departed. I hope these tips will come in very handy to you especially in this period.

Makeup Tips For African-American Women

African-American women have a wide variety of skin tones – from lighter to darker and everything in between. And while makeup lines have improved vastly in the last five years, it’s still a tricky undertaking to find the right shade for your skin tone. So finding the right makeup for your personal skin tone can be a tricky thing. If you choose the wrong color family, you can find yourself with a flat complexion or an ashen look. With a little guidance and some trial and error, you can find a color combination that works for you.

Here are three simple steps to help you on your way:

1. Pay attention to your undertones. Look beyond your skin’s color (overtone) to find the undertones that give definition to your features. For instance, rich ebony complexions often have cool undertones (look for colors in the blue family). Brown and caramel complexions may have warmer undertones (look for golden colors). Once you determine which colors are yours, use them as accents – especially around your eyes.

2. Find your color family – not just what you think is your color family. You might be surprised at just how off many women are when it comes to an accurate assessment of the colors that work for them. You may need to enlist the aid of a makeup specialist or your local cosmetics
counter. In fact, you should consult a second opinion. And remember that foundation can look very different on your face than in the bottle or on that thumbnail palette, so be sure to test it on your jawline or on the inside of your wrist to see if it will work for you.
Tip: If your complexion is uneven, you may need two different colors of foundation that can be used together. When spread correctly over the right areas, a two-color approach can give you the even skin tone you’re looking for.

3. Use blush to contour your cheekbones. Here is one area where less is definitely more – especially if you use a more exotic color. A simple brush of currant or mauve can really set off and flatter a medium to dark complexion, while a sweep of caramel, honey or apricot can give
definition to a medium to light complexion.

Tip:
Bronzer can be used as an effective alternative to blush if you have a warmer complexion. Try dusting a light coating over your face, concentrating contoured strokes at your temples and cheekbones.

Something to Think About

When selecting a makeup, color should not be your only concern. Remember your skin type. If you have normal to oily skin, a water-based liquid foundation and a cream blush may work best for you. On the other hand, normal to dry skin can benefit form an entire line of cream formulas.

Creating the sophisticated look

1. Apply a light eyeshadow over your entire eyelid from lash line to eyebrow bone, but not beyond.

2. Define the crease of your eyelid using a medium or dark shade. The deeper the shade, the more dramatic look.

3. To open up your eyes so that they appear livelier, place a dot of a light shade in the inner corner of each eye.

Tip: When choosing an eyeshadow shade, keep in mind that a pastel shade will look softer while a darker shade will appear more dramatic when applied.

Tips for your incredibly sparkly weekend!!

Friday is definitely the beginning of a madly exciting weekend and if you’ve not got a wedding, you must be hanging with the girls and gossiping about how your week went.
Hope you’ve heard that glitter is in but to use glitter, you have to regulate the rest of your face.

• pls, p...ls, pls, do not use glitter on both your eyes and your lips. Pick one facial asset and concentrate on it. So, it’s either that silver glitter on your eyes or that red glitter on your lips to stand out.

• For a night look, you can use that glittery powder that you have been itching to use. It keeps all those cute men wondering why you're shining.

• If you are feeling a bit sixties and want to use a bit of glittery dust, do so very lightly. You do not want the light reflecting off your skin and blinding everyone from your natural beauty.

• Glittery false lashes are an instant up do for your face and glittery eyeliners for a pretty day look.

But you know what the glitteriest thing you need for the weekend… It definitely should be your attitude. Let that glittery side of you out this weekend!!
