The MOBO Awards happens only once a year, so of course announcing this year’s nominees had to be done in style. The beautiful St. Pancras Renaissance Hotel in London housed this year’s nominations press launch for the 16th annual MOBO Awards in association with Lebara Mobile. The event played
host to an array of familiar faces from acts such as Wretch 32, Tinchy Stryder, Omar, Dappy and Fazer to models such as Jourdan Dunn and TV stars such as the TOWIE girls and Eastenders’ Wunmi Liadi and Preeya Kaladis, who is set to release her new single next month. Guests were treated to Cotton’s Caribbean Canapés, Champagne upon arrival and Dannoff Vodka cocktails.
DJ Swerve warmed up the party vibes with a lively set. Swerve currently plays the best in R&B, Hip Hop and club tracks on Kiss FM’s flagship show which runs Monday to Thursday from 10pm to midnight. Also a producer, he has previously produced for D Double E, P Money and ad campaigns for Blackberry and Bajan newcomers Cover Drive who were also present at the nominations launch.

Tinie Tempah, N-Dubz, Professor Green, Plan B and Dizzee Rascal lead with the most nominations at this year’s prestigious 2010 MOBO Awards in association with Lebara Mobile, once again highlighting British ‘MOBO Music’ domination of the UK’s singles chart and proving that MOBO music is now the UK mainstream.
Celebrating its 15th year, the MOBO Awards has helped champion the extraordinary rise of urban music over the past two decades from niche to now leading the UK charts, and will celebrate the cream of British artists from the past year at its star-studded ceremony in Liverpool, on October 20th.
To celebrate the 15th anniversary of the MOBO Awards in the UK, this year’s Best UK Act in association with Lebara Mobile, Best International Act, and Best African Act will all start off with 15 nominations each, giving talent the chance to be voted into the ultimate top 5 within their chosen category. All of this year’s categories will be voted for by the public with the exception of both Best Jazz Act and Best Gospel Act – winners in these categories will be selected by specialists in these areas as part of the music panel.

On June 6th multi-platinum selling artist and MOBO ambassador Leona Lewis joined MOBO Awards founder, Kanya King MBE, to announce Liverpool as the host city for the 2010 MOBO Awards in association with Lebara Mobile. This year the annual awards will be celebrating their 15th birthday on 20th October at the Liverpool Echo Arena.
Over the last 15 years MOBO has showcased and honoured some of the music industry's finest talent with performances from diverse UK and international artists including Rihanna, Amy Winehouse, Tina Turner, Jay Z, Destiny's Child and Sade. Last year’s event, which saw the Awards transfer out of London for the first time, featured appearances from among others JLS, N-Dubz, Alexandra Burke, Kelly Rowland and Jermaine & La Toya Jackson. Now the City of Liverpool is being passed the MOBO baton in anticipation of a sensational Awards ceremony in October.
