Ice Prince, Davido, May D, Skales and Daddy Showkey for Tymeout With Tee A Abuja Edition
Multi-award winning comedian, TV host and entrepreneur Tee A is taking a dazzling team of super star singers and performers along with him, for the umpteenth edition of his concert series Tymeout With Tee A in the federal capital territory, Abuja.
Tee A who pioneered live stand-up comedy events in Nigeria with his hugely successful Live ‘N Naked series, has built the Tymeout brand, to become one of the biggest events in Nigeria’s entertainment calendar, holding regularly in Lagos, Abuja an London, with past headliners including icons 2face Idibia, D’Banj, and Ali Baba; as well as fan-favourites Wizkid, Basketmouth and Bovi.
And, he’s announced today, a star-studded list of this year’s performers warming up to shake Abuja to its foundation.
The Tymeout With Tee A Live Edition, Abuja concert will be headlined by a combo of bestselling singer Davido, and rap giant and one of Africa’s most decorated hip hop acts Ice Prince. The evergreen performer Daddy Showkey, will make an extended appearance, as well as Tee A himself who’s appearing as multiple personalities.
New school faves Skales and May D are also on the train, with many Abuja fans saying they can’t wait for the two rising stars. The Abuja concert will hold at the Congress Hall of the Transcorp Hilton on April 21.
Tymeout regulars Madam Princess and MC Abbey will also thrill guests in an evening of comedy, music, theatre and dance.

The Tymeout Live series was created, according to Tee A, to take the famous TV show Tymeout With Tee A closer to audiences in different cities, while giving the show’s stars an opportunity to relax and interact with fans around the world.

I want to believe that the day Banky W. released the tracklist for R&BW, he pretty much confirmed the rumors about the “Star Boy” - Wizkid not being a part of E.M.E anymore because Wizkid was not featured on any of the tracks. Due to this reason, a lot of fans have shown concerns for the record label because they believe that the record is still relevant today because of WizKid. Although, we still don’t know why he left the label, some of us are still shocked, but these things happens. We had the Plantashun Boiz (Faze,TuFace, Black Face) back in the days, and they split up. Even D’Banj and Don Jazzy split up, so, Wizkid leaving E.M.E just proves to us that nothing really lasts forever. But if you still think that E.M.E will be nothing without Wizkid, you might want to listen to R&BW.
With that being said, I have decided to review this album, specially for the people who are yet to buy and listen to it, so that you won’t miss out on a gem like this. As usual, I will only review my favorite tracks because the album is still very new, I don’t want to give out all the details,so I will only review my favorite tracks, in no order, this might be challenging because I love every single song on this album, but let’s see how this goes.
R&BW basically has a love theme through most of it, from tracks like “Good Good Loving”, “Be My Lover”, “Yes/No”, to other tracks like “Find You”, “To My Unborn Child”, “Low Key”, and “Say”.
Skales is one of the most talented artists we have in Nigeria, but I still would rather him sing than rap. But that didn’t stop him from shining on Track 03 - Magic, which is a little up-tempo, compared to several other tracks. The song is about a guy got hypnotized by the way a girl danced and how she stood out in the midst of other girls, so it felt like magic and that just means that she might be the one. As usual, Banky W. did not disappoint with his amazing vocal skills. I thought the harmony and his ab-libs were well on point. Skales also showed us that he had some pretty cool lines like “Trapped in your enchantment and I ain’t trying to be free/ To other girls I’m ghost, ‘cause I always wanna have you close/ You ain’t supposed to lose me, that’ll be magic gone wrong/ Me and you behind closed doors, I won't tell, your magic, girl, I’m under your spell”. I think he is still proving to be one of the most promising artists of today.
Track 11 - To My Unborn Child, features Lynxx. This song reminded me of 2Pac. Not only did Banky impress with his vocals, he also showed us that he could spit a few bars like - “The only person in your way is the one in the mirror / if it hasn’t worked out, it ain’t the end. It’s ok to fail as long as you try again/ Greener on the other side, some say so, make sure you cut the grass slow so the snakes show/ Loyalty is thin as ice, it’s easy to skate, a promise is easy to make and easy to break.” Lynxx also came through. His verse featured lines like - “Never let your feelings show when you sleep, it’s a cold world / And remember, money isn’t everything, but your last name can get you anything/ Never let your feelings show when you sleep, it’s a cold world/ Always be aware of the company you keep/ Always put God first in everything you do/ I hope you grow up to be a greater version of me.” One would consider this track to be “deep” because it is hard for some of us to explain these feelings and put them into words. I think it’s pretty tremendous. Think about the impact it will have on your child as he reads/listens to it later. This particular song happens to be my favorite on the album.
It’s not a R&BW album till it features a baby making song, right? And who can really make you say “na na na na na na na” if it isn’t Banky W.? Track 09 - Say, features E.M.E’s Shaydee, Sammie and Rotimi. If you want to make love to your special lady, this is a track you want to keep on repeat. Talk about eargasm! These artists brought their everything, from lyrics, ad-libs, harmony, soul, everything, to the table! I don’t know who Sammie is but now I want to hear more of him. I just might like Shaydee’s voice even better than Banky W. I just might! And Rotimi’s sweet soulful voice just makes you warm and fuzzy inside. This is a beautiful song.
The album is not 100% R&B. Things pick up a little more on tracks like “01 - The Way”, “07 - Do It To Me”, “13 - Never Let You Go” and “14 - Good Good Loving Remix” where he features Tuface (You guys will love Tuface on this one). Another track that stood out to me was “12 - African & Proud.” Banky W. features Camp Mulla, Sarkodie and Vector. I read a tweet a couple of weeks ago, asking Nigerian artists to stop featuring Sakordie because he always outshines us. LOL. I think he is an amazing rapper, although, I only understand him when he speaks English, but Vector blew me away! “You go real, we go realer, beat our chests on that ape sh*t!/ Swing in the club like I play golf, Chale!” Whattttt! Vector literally murdered this track!
We see a more spiritual side of Banky W. on Track 16 - Mercy. He gets emotional as he sings about getting things right with God, he wants to be saved from himself - a work in progress, and he asks for mercy. Not only is Banky one of the best vocalists we have in our industry, he is also a good rapper and this track proves it.
The album also features familiar tracks like one of his hit singles “05- Yes/No”, “08 - Be My Lover ft. Niyola”, and “06 - Low Key”, he also features Chocolate City’s M.I Abaga and Trybe Records’ Eldee on Track 15 - More.
Overall, R&BW is a very intelligent album, filled with beautiful lyrics and a lot of soul. Banky W. has made good music in the past, but this is his best work so far.

The video which premiered today, January 16, 2012 is for the hit track, “My Baby” featuring the young and talented rapper, Skales popularly called “EME Soldier”.
"My Baby" which was produced by top music producer, Sarz, is a classic laid back hip-hop track and the video boasts of an impressive display of creativity and style.
Directed by talented cinematographer, Michael Williams with close supervision from Skales, “My Baby” video was shot in the heart of Lagos and will definitely keep you wanting more.

Speaking at a media event in Lagos on Friday June 15, CEO of EME, Banky Wellington, reiterated the music label’s commitment to providing only the hottest and the best music to its teeming fans. “We consider it a privilege for us to do this for our fans and we’ve worked with some of the finest artists, DJ’s, producers, directors in Nigeria and beyond on this album. The album also contains three fun skits by comedian Basketmouth.

It was the turn of EME Boyz Skales and Dj Exclusive to do a bit of promo for the upcoming groundbreaking Wizkid UK Tour. Skales flew into the UK for the first time with label boss Banky W and Dj Exclusive on Friday the 1st of June with a Smade entertainment welcome party lined up at IF Bar in east London. Skales took the stage for the first time ever in London .

Lagos to shoot the music video for Sisi Eko Remix featuring Flavor- The first single off his yet to be titled fifth album
And of course, for the umpteenth time, Darey showed to us that with determination, anything can be achieved as he brought together, the best and brightest talents to Broad Street, Marina Lagos. The multi award winning Entertainer filmed the clip alongside Flavor, South African Director Mark Hofemeyr , musicians, comedians, actors, OAPs and some of the best dancers in town
'We did this for the Ladies again' Darey says. 'And I'm glad my friend Flavour is able to join me in the celebration of our beautiful women and the great city of Lagos- The centre of excellence'. The video focuses on Darey and Flavour’s creative attempt to woo the very beautiful and elegant Sisi Eko through the eccentric streets of down-town Lagos. The video will feature cameo appearances from Ali Baba, Jimmy JATT, Julius Agwu, Omawumi, Waje, Skales, Kaffy, Christopher Okagbue (Gulder Ultimate Search 8 winner), Tee Y Mix , Tosyn Bucknor, Mo’eazy and many others.
In July 2011, Darey took a brief time out to handle a couple of high profile gigs - hosting popular TV musical reality show, Glo Naija Sings, Gulder Ultimate Search and Amstel Malta Showtime to name a few. Then he followed up with the signing of his protégé Moeazy, as well as putting together machinery to drive his label Soul Muzik to the top.
Darey’s pedigree as a creator of good music and his professionalism makes him one of the few contemporary Nigerian artistes recognized and respected globally. He released his first UK single “The way you are remix” featuring Chamillionaire on June 19, 2011 to commercial and critical acclaim; topping the Billboard Next Big Sound.

THE PLACE BAR HOSTS SKALES
Close friends, fans and label boss of EME’s emerging talent Skales gathered at The Place Bar, GRA on Wednesday May 2, 2012 for an exclusive gig put together by The Place Bar in honour of the critically acclaimed rapper. Skales who is presently working on the EME compilation album alongside Banky W and Wizkid says ‘It was another opportunity to mix and mingle with my friends again; and I am humbled by the gesture
from The Place.’ The all night gig according to the managers at The Place Bar was done in honour of Skales’ extraordinary talent and his remarkable effort at doing what many would have thought impossible.
In attendance was Banky W, Flowsick, Reminisce, Dee Money, Masterkraft, Uche Odoh and other close friends of Skales. “Skales is a talented artiste, and we admire the fact that he has been able to combine singing, schooling and rapping well” Manager of The place Bar Deji Hudeyin says.
Just last month following the release of EME’s lead single “Baddest Boy” Skales received nods from critics and pundits’ for great delivery on the song. Real name Raoul John Njeng-Njeng, the journey for Skales began in 2000 when he started writing his own songs and developing his rap skills in Kaduna, where he grew up. . In 2008, he entered for the Zain Tru Search competition and emerged as the winner for the North Central region, and then he came to Lagos. He has since then continued to wet the fans appetite with back to back hits.
Popularly referred to as “EME solider”, Skales is presently signed to Empire Mates Entertainment – Home to R&B power house Banky W and Pop Superstar WizKid. His new singles Mukulu and Keresimesi is presently enjoying airplay on radio in Nigeria with Mukulu being the fans favorite. In the midst of churning out back to back hits and preparing for the EME world tour of Europe and the United States, Skales is also working on the release of his official album. Those present at the exclusive gig were privileged to have a first listen to his next single “Komole”.

LAGOS AGOG FOR NIGERIAN ENTERTAINMENT TODAY’S SECOND ANNIVERSARY
Lagos| Nigeria In celebration of the second anniversary of Nigerian Entertainment Today newspapers, Industry Nite, the weekly platform for showcasing talent, networking and engagement hosted a special event in honour of Nigeria’s premiere entertainment newspaper.
The star-studded event which attracted the crème de la crème of the Nigerian Entertainment industry, media practitioners and corporate executives held at the Oriental Hotel Lekki on Wednesday April 25, 2012.
“I feel really honored that the whole industry came out to support us” NET founder Ayeni Adekunle says.
Before the Industry Nite gig, Ayeni had earlier in the day shared the success story of NET with the creative community at The British Council, in Ikoyi, Lagos. The April edition of the British Council’s Creative Sessions, facilitated by the Creative Entrepreneur’s Association of Nigeria, and was dedicated to the second anniversary of NET. Right in the same room where he unsuccessfully tried to win a British Council’s creative young entrepreneurs’ award for two years, Ayeni presented a case study on the success of Nigerian Entertainment Today sharing his experience as a journalist with Encomium, Punch and Thisday newspapers which eventually culminated into NET.
‘We did the intellectual, academic stuff at British Council in the morning, and partied in the evening’ Ayeni jokingly says.
But the NET team did really party – with a wild gig hosted by Tee A and Larry D. Guests included Nollywood superstars- Nse Ikpe- Etim, Kunle Afolayan and Annie Macaulay, Comedians- Jedi and Basket Mouth, Soccer star- Jay Jay Okocha and OAP Gbemi Olateru Olagbegi, Kayla and Tosyn Bucknor.
The Music industry was not left behind as MI, Darey, Majek Fashek, Ice prince, Mike Aremu, Lami, Kel, Sound Sultan, Omawumi, Waje, Azadus, Iyanya, Praiz, Muma Gee, KSB, Kween, Lara George and Baba Dee graced the event.
Executives- Kenny Ogungbe, Abisoye Fagade, Kelvin Orifa, Osaze Ebueku, Eric Idiahi, Sam Onyemelukwe, Steve Babaeko, Jide Adediran and Segun Demuren were also present. Other guests included Sheila of BBA, Steve Ayorinde, Efe Omorogbe, Deji Popoola, Toni Kan and Jibola Olubiyi. The night delivered buoyant energy from performers Iyanya, Skales, Mo’eazy, Praiz, Dammy Krane and Mr. Kay. The party atmosphere peaked with 2Face performing cuts from his new album “Away and Beyond”.
NET, which clocked two on April 26, 2012, was founded by media entrepreneur Ayeni Adekunle. Before establishing NET, Ayeni had been a journalist with Encomium, THISDAY and The PUNCH. The newspaper circulated nationally as a weekly, with other platforms including a popular website www.thenetng.com, as well as a mobile service.
