DON JAZZY, IYANYA, YVONNE NELSON JOIN BANKY W TO THRILL LAGOS FANS

Banky W is throwing another Lagos party. And this time, it’s for the release of his hugely anticipated genre-defining, industry-shaking album R&BW.

The singer, songwriter and businessman has spent the last few years grooming protégées like Wizkid, Skales and Niyola; running the EME label- currently unarguably Nigeria’s number one music powerhouse.

Now, W is all ready to present his new body of work to millions of fans around the world. And he’s setting it off with an intimate concert this Valentine.

EME has announced plans for the R&BW: “The Grand Love” Concert, saying, in a statement that the concert will hold at The Civic Centre on Ozumba Mbadiwe in Victoria Island, Lagos on Friday, February 15, 2013.

It’s just about two months after the massive Baddest Concert, featuring Banky and his label mates. The singer says he’s ready again, to treat fans to the kind of special performance they won’t get anywhere else.

With special guest appearance by Don Jazzy and Yvonne Nelson, Banky W will be joined by Wande Coal, Darey, Tiwa Savage, Bez, Blackky and Faze. Other star performers, according to EME, include Lynxxx, Sound Sultan, Iyanya, Praiz, Omawumi, Waje, J Martins, May D, Chidinma 

EME homeboys Wizkid, Skales, DJ Xclusive, and Shaydee are also on the bill, as well as first lady Niyola

Banky W took time off finalizing the album, and rehearsing for the concert, to speak with journalists, saying he ‘can’t wait to present this beautiful album’.

'This is the year of R&BW’, he says, adding that the Civic Centre concert is ‘one of many events’ that’ll mark the arrival of the long awaited album.

The red carpet event holds with support from TheBeatFM, MTV Base, Channel O, Soundcity, Silverbird Group, Wings, Cool FM, RhythmFM and TraceTV

The concert is powered by Samsung Mobile, Spinlet and Hennessy. Fans who pre-order the Samsung Galaxy Grand, stand a chance of winning tickets to the show.

Lead singles Yes/No and ‘Good good loving’ are already spreading across Nigeria and beyond, with the video for Yes/No topping the charts for many weeks.

The album will be released on the EME imprint.

Who are the superstar performers that’ll join Banky W, Wizkid and other EME acts on stage at the much talked about Baddest Concert?

Everyone’s guessing, with different folks throwing up names of the acts they’d like to see.

While there’s been no word yet from the show’s producers, and the EME crew are keeping sealed lips, it is believed that no less than 10 major fan-pleasers, drawn from different genres and generations, will join producers R28 and EME to treat Lagosians to the biggest and ‘baddest’ Christmas concert ever.

What are the names being thrown up?

Top on the list, according to insiders, is Grammy-nominated juju legend King Sunny Ade. Other names in circulation include revered pop icon 2face Idibia, Fuji giant Pasuma Wonder , hip-hop superstars M.I and Naeto C and the world-famous D’Banj.

Organisers say full concert details, including surprise acts, co-headliners, and other elements will be released in a matter of days. Apart from the Nigerian stars joining the bill, at least two international acts will also fly in to join EME for a night of lavish entertainment and fun.

‘We’re certainly throwing a concert Nigeria will not forget in a while, Banky said during rehearsals yesterday, refusing to name which artistes will join the EME acts. ‘I can’t let the cat out of the bag yet, but trust me, there’s no concert like The Baddest concert, and you’ll say I said so when you hear the names of our guest acts. The EME concert, holding on Friday, December 21, at Oceanview in VI, Lagos, is the inaugural edition of the annual concert from Nigeria’s leading music label Empire Mates Entertainment and revolutionary events company R28.

WIZKID JOINS TREY SONGS, KENDRICK LAMAR, OTHERS ON BBC RADIO 1XTRA LIVE CONCERT

Nigerian international pop star and EME starboy, Wizkid has just been selected to perform alongside top international acts at the BBC 1xtra Live concert in November.

Following the announcement by the BBC last night, it has now been confirmed that Wiz will join the likes of Trey Songs and Kendrick Lamar to perform at the BBC 1xtra live concert on November 12, 2012 at Brixton Academy in London.

This big feat comes on the heels of his announcement as Artiste of the year, and best new artiste, at Nigeria’s biggest music awards The Headies, last Saturday.

Other acts billed for the BBC 1Xtra Radio concert are Tulisa and Angel.

UPDATES: WHO IS THE CULPRIT? BANKY W. (EME) OR ROYAL ENTERTAINMENT?

Now, before I share what I'm about to share with you guys, allow me to vent for a minute. 

According to the CEO of Royal Entertainment, Banky W canceled the California concert four days before the show, and this was after Royal Ent. had paid him. Also, Banky's excuse for canceling the show was "something huge came up." Now, let me take you back to the DM that was leaked on twitter yesterday. Banky's "personal friend" (@Tonididitonem) claimed she knew that Banky and the EME boys were not going to perform in California a long time ago. She also made it clear that Royal Ent and the rest of the fans would not be getting their refund. 

I feel like we just got scammed all over again because all of a sudden, Royal Ent. released what I would call a big ol' pilE of steaming bull crap Press Release, apologizing on behalf of EME and also saying that EME was never paid for the concert? So, why were you guys accusing BankY W. for being a scammer? 

You also mentioned that the reason why the concert was canceled was because Wizkid got sick. So I have a few questions for you

Is this the "something huge" that came up?? Why didn't EME tell you guys right away that Wizkid got sick? Why did they have to wait till everything got so messed up? What about the girl who claimed that Banky was not going to be at the show? Was she lying? Was that a publicity stunt? Did Prophet TB Joshua predict Wizkid's sickness? because this whole thing sounds shady to me! 

I think the press release is pure rubbish. The excuses you guys gave don't even make sense! We are not idiots. Either you guys come clean and let us know that EME paid you to shut you up, then you decided to feed us with this BS press release, OR just admit that you wanted attention and you wanted to make Banky W. look bad (character defamation is a huge offense in case you didn't know.)

I know for a fact that there is more to this story. You cannot just start an online movement and rant for days about how you got scammed, only for you to come back and say that EME was never paid and all other things that don't even add up. WE DEMAND ANSWERS!!!!

I also feel like Banky W a.k.a Baddest Boy should consider going into politics. (All kinds of pun intended - if u catch my drift ;))

BANKY W CAUGHT UP IN SCAM SCANDAL

I’ll begin this post by first jogging your memory to the summer of last year, when the EME label was set to hold a North American Tour that unfortunately for fans, didn’t happen. When asked about the situation, EME coroner Banky W pretty much explained that things didn’t go according to plan, and gave his sincerest apology to fans. As many of you are aware of, the EME team gave fans another opportunity of meeting them this summer, as they promised to perform at different locations around the U.S. (Among those locations was NYC, which I recently did a review post for. ) All was going accordingly until the cancelation of the California/ Canada tour. Enough grammar. Here’s the gist:

Banky W and the rest of the EME boys have been promoting their tour, and allegedly reached out to a well known California promoter (@Echecrates for those on twitter) to help put the show together. However, just days before the show was supposed to take place, the EME boys cancelled, with the explanation that “something HUGE came up”. Banky W even gave a press release statement, explaining that the EME team is very appreciative of their fans, but what came up was beyond their control. The promoter however expressed his disdain over the issue on twitter, emphasizing the fact that EME came to him, and not the other way around. He also mentioned that “something HUGE came up” was not a good enough reason/ explanation to cancel a show he worked hard to put together. He stated that he got fans from out of state to buy tickets to watch the EME boys perform, despite their concerns over the fact that the show, like last year, might be canceled.

As if things weren’t bad enough, a leaked DM (direct message) between two individuals on twitter (@msJANElove, & @ToniDidItOnEm ) added more fuel to the fire. (See screenshots below) The tweets are quite straight forward, and show that the person sending the tweets (@ToniDidItOnEm) was very much aware of the fact that the concert wasn’t going to take place. She not only brought the fact that “something HUGE came up” was questionable, (suggesting that the EME boys already knew that the concert wouldn’t take place, but were promoting it anyway) , but she also received heat from the promoter because she, as his friend , was well aware of the fact that he was getting “played” by EME.

In summary, EME is receiving a lot of criticism right now for their actions, and are being accused of scam. I heard something about lawyers getting involved, (because apparently last year, fans that bought tickets never received their money back) but nothing is yet confirmed. I do know that according to banky, fans this time will be refunded 100% for their money. There’s been no word yet from the EME camp, so we’ll all just have to sit tight.

EME SIGNS FIRST FEMALE ACT, NIYOLA

Empire Mates Entertainment (EME) today officially announced the signing of singer-songwriter Niyola to the label. EME boss Banky W made this known in Lagos while speaking with a group of editors and media executives. Niyola, a smooth and sultry singer, who has one album to her name, and a couple of hit singles that attracted many to her, is the first lady to be signed on the label. Before joining EME, Niyola was an independent artiste, working to establish her recording career and plant her feet firmly in the mainstream.

‘I was eagerly searching for a place to call home’, the singer comments. ‘And after being friends with the EME family for sometime, I realized this is my home, where my heart and my soul is. This is where I want to be’. Apart from Banky W, who doubles as talent and executive, EME is also home to pop star Wizkid, and rapper Skales. That list will now include star jockey DJ Exclusive who recently singed a deal to be EME’s official DJ, Master Kraft- Official producer as well as the respected Ghanaian hip hop act XO Senavoe, who is the label’s first international signing.

AKON SIGNS WIZKID, IN MAJOR PARTNERSHIP WITH EME RECORDS

Empire Mates Entertainment has signed a major deal with Akon’s Konvict Music to release and produce Wizkid’s album worldwide.

The Banky W- led record label today announced that paperwork has been signed and that there is now a confirmed joint partnership between EME and Konvict music.

Although Wiz is the first beneficiary of the arrangement, the deal also makes provision for EME to launch any of its follow up acts on the same platform

According to Banky W who’s the chairman of EME “EME is now Konvicts’s official rep in Africa and will run the African arm of Konvict’s operation including offices, management, studios, A&R, production and provisions of more artistes to launch under this partnership” 

He continues “Wiz is the first act to be launched under this agreement, but EME will continue to build acts that achieve enough buzz to also launch on the same platform”

Since debuting in 2008, Empire Mates Entertainment has revolutionized a fast rising industry by crafting songs that people identify with using creative ways to market and monetize their brands; while working to build and expose local talents.
