INTRODUCING THE QUEEN OF AFROCENTRIC MUSIC - TENI

............SHE BREAKS THE RECORD OF OVER 100,000 YOUTUBE VIEWS

Teni is a jazz singer and composer who makes afrosoul upon hearing her smoky and elegant funk, somewhat restrained and stripped back in a time when we are more used to over-emoting, one is immediately reminded of Sade Adu.

Teni was living in Lagos, Nigeria, until recently, leading her ten piece band the Afro-Renaissance, and also appearing
from time to time with Seun Kuti and the Egypt 80, Felas' original band. She is set to release the debut single from her forthcoming album "Afrodisiac," also titled "Afrodisiac," which features legendary master drummer and afrobeat co-creator Tony Allen on live drums and has a beautifully sensual music video that was viewed over 100,000 times on Youtube in just three months.

With an album of truly classic, rootsy afrosoul music that is ten years in the making. Teni is set to revolutionize music with an epic self-produced sound that transcends genres from afrobeat, jazz and the blues to soul and reggae is inspired by eclectic influences from Fela Kuti to Marvin Gaye and Nina Simone and has a strong, truly timeless message. One Love! Africa unite! Coming out later in 2012.

AFRODISIAC VIDEO DROPS

‘Afrodisiac’ is the debut single from the highly anticipated forthcoming album by British born Nigerian afro jazz singer and composer Teni. The single featured legendary afrobeat co-creator and master drummer, Tony Allen.

Afrodisiac is a timelessly soulful, sensual jazz and afrobeat inspired piece with sultry vocals reminiscent of Sade Adu. With a myriad of musical influences from Curtis Mayfield to Aretha Franklin, Bob Marley and Kate Bush, Teni is the only woman composing original contemporary feminine afrobeat and afrosoul as Fela's legacy ignites the world from New York to London.

The new video was directed by Waltbanger of Banger Soup Productions and co-directed by Teni. Ever since the release of the video, it has been generating great reviews and trending on different online music websites. Her kind of music has been identified by the upwardly mobile men and women who have got good ears for great music.
The London born Nigerian singer has proved to all her followers that she is truly an embodiment of talent. Teni has performed around the world including London, America and in her country, Nigeria. She performed at the Felabration concert in 2010. Ever since her performance in Nigeria, her fan base has continually been on the rise. She displays efficiency in the art and her vocal delivery is always on point.

With her nine-piece band- the Afro-Renaissance, Teni seeks to start a new movement as one of the very few African women making big-band music and leading her own band. Her message of African unity and upliftment and powerfully sensual live performance are sure to help her take the music world by storm. Industry insiders have said "Sade, watch out!"

However Teni makes it clear that while she is inspired by Sade Adu, as well as other torch singers like Billie Holiday and Nina Simone, she is very much forging her own unique path with a more African inspired sound and style. This gifted singer-songwriter now looks firmly set to emerge as one of 2012's finest new breakthrough artistes with her self-produced album that was recorded entirely in Lagos, Nigeria.
With an album of truly classic, rootsy afrosoul music that is ten years in the making, Teni is set to revolutionize music with an epic and rebellious self-produced sound that transcends genres from jazz and the blues to soul and reggae.

Teni and the Afro-Renaissance will be performing live in London at the Ritzy in Brixton on Weds 29 June and in Los Angeles at the Roxy in July.

The official video for "Afrodisiac" was released on May 10 and is a unique black and white, film noir inspired video shot at the beach, featuring a merman who comes out of the ocean and expressing the fatal attraction between Teni and this mysterious man. It is available at www.tenimusic.org, Youtube, and Facebook. "Afrodisiac" the single is available for free download for a limited time at www.tenimusic.org and www.soundcloud.com/teni.
