VIDEO: A-Q - 'Groovement' feat. Sammy

The record is titled 'Mo ti lo (I'm So Gone)' featuring newbie singer BB. A-Q releases 3rd Single [Sold Out feat. Xtrim]

A-Q’s government name is Gilbert Ubani and he has noted some of hip-hop pioneers as his influence – artists like Rakim, Jay-z, Notorious B.I.G, Nas and Talib Kwali among others. His hobbies range from basketball to chess and when asked why chess – he was quick to say “Every move is calculated and it has to be tactical, master the art of playing chess and you will be a champion in the industry”.

A-Q is one of the new faces currently tearing up the Hip-Hop industry in Nigeria. His first single {w} Rap Nigeria showed a rapper with wit, word play, and rhyme skills. This follow-up single ‘Things that we do’ is currently receiving heavy rotation on radio stations nationwide. His debut compilation CD ‘Listen and Overstand’ is currently being sold in music stores and on-line stores like iTunes, Amazon & CDBaby.

A-Q got initiated into the world of hip-hop in secondary school after hearing classic songs from Biggie, Jay-z, and Rakim and started rapping professionally in 1998. After six years of record label politics and industry antics, he finally decided to grab the bull by the horns and independently recorded and released his debut compilation CD.

The success of that album (which is currently gold under ground) caught the attention of alot of important people in the music industry, he has also independently released a mixtape THE COMMISSION (The Maga Must Pay Mixtape) that featured members of the HALF LIFE ENTERTAINMENT – the mixtape also did well on the streets, all these effort caught the attention ofBeyoundspheres Records, however the contract was not good enough for him.

He was signed a contract with PINK MYST PRODUCTIONS, a Canadian film company but presently signed to Hustle Inc where his offcial debut album - THE PAST PRESENT AND FUTURE was released in 2010.

A-Q's 4th #Blackfriday Free Twitter Music. Album Drops Tomorrow, Sat'Day at Club Karma, VI.

In the past month, A-q was giving out mixtape material via Twitter. Here's his fourth and last free #Blackfriday track from A-Q before his debut album - The Past, Present and Future that drops tomorrow, Saturday. The red carpet launch takes place at upscale bar and lounge Club Karma, Younis Bashorun, Victoria Island Lagos.

This track features young lyricist Fecko and Miek Harry rapping over Djinee's overkilling instrumental.

Fecko opens the track with lines like "if you want beef, this would be your last supper" and "I'm a rude boy, hi Rihanna" then A-Q 'comes through' and gets comical like never before, like he has ever been on a #blackfriday track and he invites youngster / 14 years old to bring the track to a close.

A-Q Presents #BlackFriday Twitter Music As Debut Album Drops Dec. 4th

The long overdue body of work from controversial Rap artiste, A-Q is scheduled for release on December 4th at a party to unite both the mainstream and underground Nigerian hiphop circuit.

A-Q was in the news earlier in the yet for calling Ruggedman 'whack' in his ead single, Names.

The rapper born Gilbert Ubani was compelled to address the situation, informing he only made an observation when he rapped 'we don't say autotone, we say Jesse Jagz track. We don't say whack, we say Ruggedman's back'.

The single followed with a remix for the track featuring Pherowshuz and Iceberg Slim. Funky house 'Champagne and rum' followed, growing into a viral track that has received several rave reviews both on radio and with the online platforms.

A-Q's official debut album titled 'The Past, Present and Future' is a 17 tracker album featuring Terry Tha Rapman, Iceberg Slim, Xtrim, Retta, Pherowshuz, Lace and parading exceptional line up of producers - Ray X, E Twinz, XYZ, Phatboy and Laylow.

AQ addresses Jesse Jagz and Ruggedman Comment/ Purported Feud, To Release A Record/Song To Collaborate - Plans Mixtape

"I was just calling it as I saw it, dude [Jesse Jagz] uses autotune and he uses it well, so why all fuss" A-Q said, A-Q released his recent single 'names' earlier in the year and reports of feud with
Jesse jagz and Ruggedman followed. "We don't say autotone, we say Jesse Jagz' track [and] we don't say whack, we say Ruggedman's back", A-Q rapped in the third verse for the single 'names'.

"I'd say it as it is but it is all love", the outspoken rap artiste said.

A-Q's recording career started in 2001 when he released the reportedly controversial '(W)rap Up Nigeria' track off his debut 'Listen and Overstand' LP. Ever since, he has worked with several fast rising rtistes and producers from Morachi, Terry Tha Rapman, Laylow, Sossick, Frenzy to Kraft. His last record was 'Love and Money' mixtape which featured Terry Tha Rapman, Morachi and several other fast rising artistes. The Mixtape remains the very first compilation to parade remium production from Sossick, Frenzy, Laylow, Kraft and it was given to fans free of charge.

"What we have on the track is my very honest opinion on what I thought of Jesse Jagz and Ruggedman" AQ, born Gilbert Usen said about the track. "As much as I am a rap artiste, I'm still a fan but I have never being a fan of Ruggedman, clearly I wouldn't say he is dope and
for [Jesse] Jagz, I totally didn't diss him - he sings better than he aps. He has been singing half the time he raps and he does it with a vocoder/autotone, It was a very plain comment. " he added.

"If it makes any difference, let me say I dance to his songs when it comes on in the club' he included. It is not in character any more to give props to whom it is due and tell otherwise when it is not good music, If Jesse Jagz release a good rap record, I would rap about him being the greatest but as at when I recorded 'names' and till date, he sings with the autotone software" he further said.

"In the case of Ruggedman, that was pretty much not misconstrued. He is whack and I'd make another record saying so if need be", he concluded.

AQ is working on a mixtape 'Bars and Hooks' which he plans to have it be hosted by DJ Jimmy Jatt. The mixtape would feature a track where he would address the situation with Ruggedman and Jesse Jagz. The mixtape would follow before his album titled 'The Past, Present and Future'for release before the end of the year 2010.
