Hailing from London's multi cultural and multi socio-economic Ladbroke Grove area Alaye says Grove has a mad mix. "On one side of the road you have the rich and on the other side you'll have the people with nothing, I was from the other side. Rich neighbours and hip-hop entrepreneurs have equally influenced this talented MC. I'm a hustler, I've been through it all and I am inspired by what the likes of Jay Z, Puffy and Jazzie B have done both as artists and business men"
His father an officiando of the 70s funk & reggae scene was seldom around. However the ties he had with music, managing bands and the long periods on the road traveling around the world with Bob Marley & Fela Kuti gave the young Alaye a legacy of great artists as reference points for his own musical growth.
From my Dad it was Fela & Bob, for me it was Doug E Fresh & Slick Rick. I took all these musical influences and tried to express myself. Alaye's creative talent is born out of this ability to draw positively from personal experiences and use them to mature his art.
"Everything I've been through in life has helped me lyrically, I dont have to lie or fabricate my life to sell records. My life is my material. As a result of u.k majors not pushing street music I decided to start my own label in order to get my material out and also put out other artist's. So along with two friends, Beth (who i known since nursery) and DD (my co.d since college) i started SUGAKANE ENT. The first release from Sugakane Ent was Alaye's Mind My Creps which was put out as a white label and got instant support from key djs i.e Tim Westwood who was feelin the track enough to include it on his album "The Greatest Hip Hop of 2005". The next release from me will be a double A "Journey" and "Type a luv 2" taken from the forthcoming album Street vs Mic. My vision for the next few years is to make Sugakane Ent a major force in the industry. We just gettin started. EXCUSE ME!
