Naima Adedapo eliminated from American Idol

Naima Adedapo's plane landed in her hometown (Milwaukee) on April 5th, and her time as an American Idol contestant was up. The singer isn't feeling eliminated, she's feeling more elated.

Her journey may have ended too soon for fans, but the next steps for Naima Adedapo are dance steps of joy. Adedapo will take part in this summer's American Idol Live Tour. She was unable to garner enough of the 55 million votes to move on, but she's moving forward. First with family at home, next with an album.

Naima Adedapo rains reggae on 'Umbrella'

Naima Adedapo goes with Rihanna's Umbrella and gets paired with Tricky, who worked on the song. Tricky says the song's a great fit from her. Jimmy Iovine thinks she's got Top 5 potential.

Naima's performance is wildly uneven. It starts off strong but goes flat in its second section. She does a bit of dancehall toasting in the middle before pulling back into the song. It's adventurous, for sure, especially when the song's interrupted by a lightning flash and thunderbolt on the video screen behind her.

"You're crazy good," Steven tells her, though a little pitchy. "You brought flavor tonight that no one else has done. ... I adore you for that."

"I don't care about all that pitchy -- you got fire, girl," Jennifer says. "You're doing it like stars do it. ... You need to work on the control."

Randy reiterates how much she needs to control her pitch and her cut-offs when she's doing the dance moves. But he loved the reggae arrangement.

Naima Adedapo talks about receiving 'American Idol' wild card spot

The first elimination show of the new season of "American Idol" has come and gone in history-making fashion. Host Ryan Seacrest announced on the show Thursday (Mar 3) that around 40 million votes were cast, narrowing the field of 24 hopefuls to 10 contestants, the biggest cuts in the show's history. Three more wild card contestants sang for their lives and were later added by judges Steven Tyler, Jennifer Lopez and Randy Jackson to make a top 13.

When MTV News caught up with the involved parties at Fox's afterparty to celebrate the "Idol" finalists, there were feelings of relief and joy. Naima Adedapo's chose Donny Hathaway's "For All
We Know."

"It really talks about what I wanted to talk about," she said. "That is, 'Love me tonight. I need you to put me through tonight. Let me show you who I am.' "

Adedapo added that hearing her name called as part of the top 13 had her almost floating on air.

"Words can't really express it, but it's like a high," she said. "It's like being elevated somewhere. I feel like I wasn't even on earth anymore, I just kind of was happy and in the moment. I felt like I had an opportunity to really show them how much I really want it."
