cinemas across the nation.

However before the cinema debut for the Blessing Effiom Egbe’s movie, a grand premiere will be held at the prestigious Genesis Deluxe Cinema on Thursday, November 17. The premiere which would have stars of the movie, Blessing Egbe, Stella Damasus, Kalu Ikeagu, Chelsea Eze, O.C Ukeje, Keira Hewatch, Okey Uzoeshi, and other celebrities in

Tickets for the premiere were made available for purchase last week and the response has been phenomenal. The tickets which are being sold to corporate and individuals have been selling fast and the patronage according to Blessing is not a surprise.

‘The efforts we put into the movie is paying off, the responses have been encouraging, . We made a brilliant movie with an eclectic blend of tried and tested hands and up-and-coming acts who delivered beyond expectations. The numbers of award nominations we have gotten despite the fact that the movie is not yet released is a proof that what we have is not your regular movie’.
Two Brides and a baby is a story of love, hate, blackmail, marriage and forgiveness. It is a story of an almost perfect relationship between O.C Ukeje and Keira Hewatch that spiraled out of control 24 hours to the altar after an ex, Stella Damasus appeared with a baby.

O.C and Keira must decide whether to risk the future on what they feel or face reality and ‘snap’ out of love fantasy. Who wins? You will have to wait till November 17 at the premiere to find out.

Iyke is about to lose a bet, a controlling shares of Blue Quest. He has to win or lose all.

WALE ADENUGA SPEAKS ON NNENA AND FRIENDS

After a successful debut of Nnena and friends TV show, the popular edutainment programme from Wale Adenuga Productions (WAP), now showing in about 30 stations across the nation, tongues are beginning to wag that Wale Adenuga, the veteran and famous entertainment merchant is bigger than children programs.

In response to this, Wale Adenuga said, ‘a lot of people have ignored the children programmes because it is not as lucrative as the adult programmes, but for me money is not everything. If you want to correct the ills in any society, you start with the minds of the young ones, before they grow old into the corrupt system. There are fewer children programme on TV right now and some of the few existing are foreign programmes bereft of African values. We need to restore moral values in the children and the TV is an easy route to achieve this. I believe the children are our future and I do not underestimate the importance of children; for these reasons I will keep investing in children programs’.

Recorded under High Definition Equipments, for better picture quality, Nnena and Friends TV programme is to be hosted by Olayinka Olukunga Rufus (Nnena) and it contains segment such as drama, interviews, storytelling, counselling, music, arts and crafts, African culture and traditions, fashion and tourism and others.

Nnena and Friends sprang up after Yinka Olukunga played the role of Nnena in one of the popular soaps of Wale Adenuga Production (WAP), Superstory. Her character evolved into an entertainment brand with wide followership. The yearly Nnena and Friends shows has become the delight of so many children and this show is what has transcended into a TV programme.
Obviously long awaited, Nnena and Friends TV show has been enjoying a lot of followership in just about two weeks of its existence.

'MUSIC MEET RUNWAY' DAZZLES

If the goal of Samsung and La Reve Events for Music Meet Runway is to showcase talents and have a soar-away fun, they achieved their goal as the show was everything it promised and much more. Many had thought the last-minute stunt pulled by Amber Rose would dent the event alas it didn’t.

The show opened with an exhilarating dance from a group of Macho guys and slim ladies with delicate figures. Their energetic and in-twined moves set the tone for what to come.
It was indeed an electrifying night last week Friday at the Expo Hall in Eko Hotels, and guests made it a point of duty to stress the fashion angle of the show as they kept the venue glittering with dapperly-looking attires.

Banky W, the chief host for the night made a grand entry on stage looking hot in a long sleeved black caftan-like shirt on a jean with one of his collection of hats to go with it. Shortly after, Banky brought on stage Toolz, the celebrity OAP with Beat FM as his co host. If anyone expected Toolz to be a replacement for Amber Rose, she wasn’t, she was simply herself. She proved that what she could do on air, she could do on stage.

Then the music and fashion collision began with music performances and display of designs by the models going on at the same time on the same runway. Guest were treated to exciting tunes from Banky W, Sound Sultan, Dr Sid, Wizkid, Sasha, Naeto C, Duncan Mighty, D’ Prince, Shank, Show Dem Camp, and Davido. Davido, the revelation of the night, made a wonderful first outing on stage; his performance was just like that any upcoming star would wish for.

After an exciting introduction from his producer, Wizkid did not disappoint anyone; he effortlessly connected with the crowd and the models with his songs. The crowd completely went wild with Dr Sid who dished out his hit and gave a rare dance performance with two dancers to his track, E bami jo. Sound Sultan joined Banky W on stage to performance the song, Very Good Bad Boy after which Banky gave a good account of himself.

Eyes were almost popping out of the socket when the models started walking out. The girls were hot and right for the job, and the diverse and trendy designs, ranging from lingerie wears to haute couture were just on point courtesy of Tsemeya, Vonne Couture, Meena, Viva La Resistanc e, Toju Foyeh, Babuhska, Grey, Virgos Lounge, Obsidian and Republic Of Foreigner.
The event was not just about models and stars, Samsung, the headline sponsor of the event gave out Galaxy XII and Galaxy tab phones to three lucky winners. Put together by La Reve Events, ‘Music Meet Runway’ is one show that will not be forgotten in a long while.

‘ANCHOR BABY’ ON BBC

The July – September edition of BBC Focus on Africa has dug up a new turn of event for the movie ‘Anchorbaby’. In a two page article dedicated to the movie, Leslie Goffe, the brain behind the article pointed ‘Anchorbaby’ out as ‘A movie with its roots in Africa that points to a bigger debate happening about the levels of immigration to the United States’.

According to the article, ‘A lot of Americans are pointing to ‘Anchor Baby’ as proof that the country’s legal system is being abused’. It is exciting for us as Africans, that one of our own movies could have such impact on the number one nation of the world. It is a well known fact that Nigerian movies are popular all over the word but the effect of ‘Anchor Baby’ on the international scene, I guess, is more that what anyone including the producer of the movie, Lonzo Nzekwe bargained for.

‘Anchor Baby’ is one movie that has been overwhelmingly greeted by a lot of accolades, but it is now obvious that there is no limit to the amount of accolades the movie deserves. Known for a sold out success in the two continent and three countries it has been to and for the numerous awards accrued to it, specifically, 8 international awards from 11 International film festivals, ‘Anchor Baby ’is one successful movie that we all will continue treasure for a long time.
‘Anchor Baby’ tells the story of Paul Unanga (Sam Sarpong), Joyce Unanga (Omoni Oboli) a Nigerian couple based in the United States but who as at the time, have become illegal immigrants. Joyce is five months pregnant with the couple's first child and the husband and wife are trying to hide from security agents despite being told to leave by voluntary departure but they are determined to have their baby born in America so as to make the baby an American citizen who can then facilitate same for the parents later on. Paul was later caught and deported while Joyce stayed back to struggle on her own to achieve their dream. The love, hope, pain and struggle that came with this decision is bound to stir up some emotion in you.

‘Anchor Baby’ is a compelling and thoroughly illuminating movie that would remain in the history of Nollywood as one of the best movies on the Nollywood runway.

From the long traffic, to the filled Silverbird car park, to the large number of dapperly looking guests walking into the galleria and the red carpet stand that was flooded with stars, the event could not have been anything other than the premiere of ‘Kiss and Tell’.

The Kiss and tell premiere started at about 4pm with a red carpet event at the Atrium of the Silverbird Cinemas, which lasted for about four hours as against the two hours planned out. This was not surprising though, as the large number of paparazzi on ground could not have enough of the long list of stars on ground. The role call of stars in attendance include; Monalisa Chinda, Emem Isong, Joseph Benjamin, Uche Jumbo, Lilian Bach, Susan Bash, Julius Agwu, Fred Amata and a whole lot of others.

At about 8pm guests moved into the hall for the premiere proper. The Nigerian comedian and radio presenter Yaw, who was the anchor of the event, came on stage and introduced the executive producer, producer and the cast of the movie who took a bow after a resounding applause from the audience.

Guests were taken through several crescendos of fun and laughter as the romantic comedy ‘Kiss and Tell’ came up on the screen. Executive producer of the movie Monalisa Chinda and producer, Emem Isong were all smiles after the movie as the standing ovation and applause they got after the movie signalled to them that they did a good job.

‘Kiss and Tell’ features A-list Nollywood actors like Desmond Elliot who also directed the movie, Monalisa Chinda, Nse Ikpe-Etim, Uche Jombo, Joseph Benjamin, Bhaira Mcwizu, Darlene Benson and others. It will start showing in Abuja, Lagos, Port Harcourt and other parts of the country from July 18.

Funke Akindele’s bag of many surprises for TROJ

Actress and Glo Ambassador, Funke Akindele has lots of surprises up her sleeves for her highly anticipated movie, The Return of Jenifa (TROJ). One of the many surprises is the fact that the actress will be flaunting her dance style, a side many didn’t know she has. Her dance choreographer on set was famous dancer and dance instructor, Kaffy.

TROJ will be released in August and will be in cinema from August 26 courtesy Nigeria’s number one movie distributor, Blue Pictures.

According to the actress’s publicist, Bigsam Media, TROJ will exceed whatever record ‘Jenifa’ set. ‘We have it on record that Jenifa sold over eight million copies which exclude the pirated copies taken abroad and we believe TROJ will overtake that record and set another one. The kind of effort that was put into the production of the movie is unequal. The DOP, DJ
Tee, cast and crew, budget, and standard applied have not been seen in recent times. Asides all these, the storyline is refreshing and different. This is one movie that will break cinema record and set a new one’.

The cast for the movie include Funke Akindele, Banky W, Kaffy, Eldee, Freeze, Eniola Badmus, Yinka Quadri, Whizkid, Antar Olaniyan, Mercy Aigbe, Ronke Oshodi Oke, Denrele Edun, CD John, Helen Paul, Naeto C, DJ Zeez and many others.

MONALISA AND EMEM TO PREMIERE 'KISS AND TELL'

It is another combination of beauty and brains as nollywood screen diva Monalisa Chinda and wave making actor Joseph Benjamin put together stellar performances in another romantic comedy flick from the Royal Arts Academy titled ‘Kiss and Tell’.

Starring Desmond Elliot, Monalisa Chinda, Nse Ikpe-Etim Uche Jombo, Joseph Benjamin, Bhaira Mcwizu, Darlene Benson and others, ‘Kiss and Tell’ is set to be premiered on June 19, at the Silverbird Galleria in Lagos. As we have been informed, the classy premiere is to start by 4pm with a red carpet event and the premiere proper by 6pm.

The highly humorous movie ‘Kiss and Tell’ is set to crack the toughest ribs and it has Monalisa Chinda as the executive producer and one of the best in the field Emem Isong as the producer.

Iyke, the ultimate player, is best of friends with Bernard, except when it comes to Blue Quest, the firm they run together. When Delphine, a gorgeous divorcee who has sworn off men, walks into Iykes’s life, he makes a wager with his friend to sleep with her in ten days or sell his controlling shares in the company. What Iyke didn’t bargain for was falling for his Prey.
Iyke (Joseph Benjamin), the ultimate player in the game of women runs Blue Quest with his friend Bernard (Desmond Elliot); their friendship however does not apply to their coy. Iyke, who prides himself as the ultimate player per excellence however met his match perhaps more than he bargain for in Delphine (Monalisa Chinda), a divorce lawyer who is a divorcee herself. Iyke is about to lose a bet, a controlling shares of Blue Quest. He has to win or lose all.

Emem Isong speaking on the movie said, ‘it is a classy movie one that you watch and feel good about. We exercised a lot of caution in producing the movie so that the touch of class can be maintained. The script has a detailed touch of wit and humour and the director Desmond Eliot ensured that the cast brought the script to life. It took a lot of hard work to put the movie together but comments that we have gotten so far since the trailer has been released has made it all worth it’.

Tongues are however wagging that Monalisa might be telling her messy divorce story in the compelling flick. ‘Let me leave that to people who know me to judge’ she said in a release by Royal Arts reps, Bigsam Media. Kiss and Tell will be in cinemas in Abuja, Lagos, Port Harcourt and other parts of the country from July 18.

RITA DOMINIC’S SPEECH AT THE PRESIDENTIAL LUNCH

Being the speech presented by Rita Dominic at the presidential lunch on May 22, 2011 at the Eko Hotel and Suites

I feel privileged to be living in a time where I can proudly say that young Nigerians are seriously advocating for a better Nigeria. Some people may disagree with me but I believe we may now have a President willing to listen to us and identify with our hopes and aspirations.

If you don’t agree, then you have to show me a past president of Nigeria who has actively pursued the youth vote? Show me a past Nigerian president who has used social networks utilized by our young people to reach out them? Show me a past president who has set aside a 200 million dollar intervention fund dedicated to an industry that is one of the largest employers of young people in Nigeria…. I rest my case.

My name is Rita Dominic, I represent NOLLYWOOD!

I would like to thank Mr. President, for providing this low interest loan to galvanize our industry. Many young people who own production companies are depending on this loan to turn us from employees to employers, from unemployed to employed.

However, it is imperative that the people who will administer this fund understand the spirit behind your creating it in the first place. Some of us have applied for the loan but the requirement of collateral in the traditional sense is about to dash that dream. Sir, if the youth had enough collateral, we would not have needed the intervention in the first place. I respectfully request that you look into the litany of requirements that is making the loan inaccessible to the people it was created for.

One properly produced Nigerian film can involve hundreds of young people from various works of life. Apart from the actors and actresses, when making a quality film, we directly or indirectly hire production managers, accountants for budgeting and record keeping, electricians (Lighting specialists), costume designers (tailors), catering people (cooks), set and production designers, camera operators, publicity people, graphic artists, still photographers, make up people, hair stylists, production assistants who help on set but don’t forget each actor/actress will hire own PAs, film editors, boom persons and marketing companies. The list goes on and on.

Imagine that we have scores of productions going on in various parts of the country. The impact is simply amazing.

Mr. President, I am a witness to what an infusion of funds can do to elevate and empower the lives of young people. Traders in Onitsha and Aba started it 20 years ago and Nollywood became a reality, Globacom did it for 13 young people 2 years ago and it instantly increased the number of actors and actresses producing their own films. If managed properly, imagine what the 200 million dollar fund can do hundreds of young producers, what it can do for thousands of unemployed youth out there.

Let us make it happen. Continue to support youth programs. Giving such support means that you believe in the future of Nigeria. If you do, the youth will not forget for generations to come.

Thank you

Present in Monaco to represent Inale were the producer, Keke Bongos, lead actor, Hakeem Kae Kazeem, and director of photography, James Costello. THE BIG FAT LIE OF NIGERIAFILMS.COM ON OMOTOLA EKEINDE

Our attention has been drawn to one big fat lie published on the very notorious and credibility-deficient website, www.nigeriafilms.com about our client, Mrs. Omotola Jalade Ekeinde, a highly respectable Nollywood actress. In the said damaging report that is being examined by our lawyer, the website claimed Mrs. Ekeinde is having a sizzling and immoral relationship with Dr. Taiwo Afolabi, CEO of Sifax based on the fact that www.nigeriafilms.com sights her regularly at the Apapa office of Dr. Afolabi.

ISSUES
It is a big fat lie that Mrs. Ekeinde frequents the office of Dr. Afolabi, the major reason given for the said romance. She has NEVER being to the said office at all. Secondly, the Ekeindes and the Afolabis are family friends. Members of the families do exchange visits. Members of the Afolabi family do visit the Iba home of the Ekeinde often while the Ekeindes do the same. Captain Matthew Ekeinde and Dr. Afolabi are particularly fond of each other and do discuss at length when occasion permits. The last time Mrs. Ekeinde was at the Afolabi’s house was when she had a meeting with MRS. AFOLABI on participating in the highly publicized, Gaga4Fashion organized by the Afolabi’s children. It is an open knowledge that the families of Ekeinde and Afolabi have a long standing relationship and Capt. Ekeinde is particularly close to Dr. Afolabi.

This report is a hatchet job by Nigeriafilms and we have detailed our legal team to start legal proceedings against the website that has notoriety for plagiarism and is known not to have a single reporter based in Nigeria, the major country it covers. Nigeriafilms claimed it could not reach Omotola to confirm the story. Our firm, Bigsam Media and the website have a long standing relationship and open channel of communication; no representative of the website tried to contact us via phone or email. It is worrisome to note that a top executive of the website still spoke to our CEO on Monday concerning an advert deal we have with the website. No issue of Omotola was raised there or afterwards. For Nigeriafilms, we are not surprised at this brazen disregard for ethics of the noble profession, journalism and total disrespect for decency. The website has never been known for anything decent. It is a known fact that the website copy and pastes stories from other respectable websites without giving credit.

It is this same website that published a false story on an actor contracting HIV only for it to publish a rejoinder weeks after saying ‘sorry’ for the misinformation. This same website published several apologies concerning a story on another top actress for alleging she was involved in lesbianism. The company’s former reporter left the organization due to the fact that the website only wants false and negative stories on Nigerian celebs. We are not saying online journals should not do its job of reporting but we should endeavor to do our job within the line of decency and respect for the noble profession, journalism.

Nigeriafilms should learn from other respectable online journals that have been able to earn respect due to the professional way they conduct business. This website thrives on the fact that it is not based in Nigeria so it has perceptual immunity to damage reputation and still escapes the arms of the law. This time around, we are ready for them. They have bitten more than they can chew.

The movie screening followed suite as journalists, movie practitioners and members of the audience made their way to a hall at the Galleria to watch the movie that has won international awards. The movie screening lasted for close to two hours with the audience laughing, screaming, exclaiming and purging out emotions as the mood of the movie dictated.

Happy at the success of the premiere, Mrs. Joy Dickson the writer and director of Between Queens and Kings, said “With the response I’ve gotten from the viewers at the screening, our effort has not been in vain because we have really put much in the production of the movie, from the directing, cinematography to getting the best cast and crew; ‘Between Kings And Queens’ is a movie to watch out for. His experience in the land of liberty quickly unravels as he finds himself working for a local deli and sleeping on his cousin, Nanna’s couch. Kalu soon crosses paths with the friend of a notorious drug lord in town, his journey takes him on a dangerous path. Enter Susan, a beautiful African-American woman who connects with Kalu as he becomes the target of the drug cartel and a pair of corrupt cops. On the run from both sides of the law, Kalu uses his creativity and stands by his ideals to overcome the challenges he faces in the land of liberty.

Speaking on his experience while working on set of Between Kings and Queens, popular Nollywood actor said, “I saw it as a cultural exchange of some sorts. I was basically the only African in the movie but you know the way thespians are , irregardless of the colour .We think alike, we are one minded people ,we are uniformed in our approach to things so in no time it was easy for me to blend in and work together to make things happen. The truth is that the key ingredients when shooting a movie is the talent and relentless effort of the director. It was easy to work and hang around with some really cool people.
