Move over Dora the Explorer, Bino and Fino Are in Town!

In a bold bid to dispel the stereotype of "West is Best", Adamu Waziri and his team decided to be the change they want to see. Bino and Fino, a cartoon series about a brother and sister launched the later part of 2011, with a pilot episode to celebrate Nigeria's independence day. Bino and Fino live with their grandparents ‘Mama’ and ‘Papa’ in a modern day city in Africa and it is aimed at three to five year olds. It was created out of a desire to meet an an industry demand for more ethnically diverse children’s entertainment, especially for viewers from a Black African heritage globally, whether residing on the African continent or in diaspora.

Fun and educational in content, Bino and Fino will help teach children about counting, colours, animals, culture and will also help teach children major African languages. Says Adamu Waziri - “I want to create a brand that’s as good as Dora the Explorer, Charlie and Lola, quality wise, made in Nigeria, that is educational, and also shows positive aspects of Nigerian/African culture, not just to Nigerian or African kids but to kids everywhere,” Bino and Fino join the list of already existing African children's cartoons like Kenya's “Tinga Tinga Tales, and South Africa's “Jungle Beat” which focus more on the rich fauna of Africa. Bino and Fino, however, bring a more unique edge and hope to put a smile on the younger African generation by relating more to the activities of their everyday life. Despite the operational challenges, the makers of Bino and Fino have finally packaged a DVD which is available on the market and through their site at www.binoandfino.com

This Sunday Bino and Fino will be screened as part of a special children’s event in Lagos. The event is taking place at the wonderful Lifehouse in V.I. Here are the details.

Coconut Island

LAGOS, NIGERIA: A couple of guys in Nigeria are working on an animated series; Coconut Island that will come to a screen near you soon. Coconut Island is a fun, happy place where Tuyo and his friends live happily...except whenever Koko the mad economist tries to come up with another insane, money making scheme for the Island.

Below are the islanders in the upcoming series; COCONUT ISLAND.

FUNKY LIZARD

He's a huge music fan who spends all of his time listening to music on his little music player and always singing along to the endless irritation of everyone else. He'd love to audition for a musical reality show sometime soon.

KOKO

Oxford educated "Mad" economist bent on maximizing the economic out put of the island. Speaks pidgin English to the islanders because he can't really hear them through his mask and he is quite sure that "they're barbarians so they can't understand anything else!"

OLD OWL

He's deeply wise and senile, speaking random proverbs offering words of wisdom to no one in particular. The other Islanders won't admit it but they all think he's gone coo-coo.

TUYO

Laid back tortoise and leader of the islanders. He just wants to hang out, kick back and have fun.
Problem is, he's chilled out to the point of being lazy...

MIKI

Hyper active, smart monkey who'd like to grow up and be one thing or another (beautician, politician, rockstar) depending on the day of the week. She's the mother and brains of the crew. She can't stand eating bananas and only likes to throw them.

TUTU

Constantly talkative and pesky bird with a beak for trouble that she can't keep out of other people's business.

HENCHMEN

Shrill squeaking creatures of unknown origins, seemingly work for Koko out of a need for survival, but all is not as it appears and they have their own hidden agenda.

CRAZY CHICKEN

Insomiac chicken that has neither slept or crowed in recent memory. All he really wants to do is to crow in peace but never seems to get around to it

GABI

Grumpy, sour fellow who just wants to be left alone to eat in peace. The other guys insist on dragging him along on their adventures. He eats just about anything...if he can look at it, then he can eat it!
