SO FLY WINS JAY’s SEARCH 2011

It was to a cheering audience that the judges of Jay’s Search 2011 (Chairman of Punch Newspapers Wole Aboderin, EME boss Segun Demuren, Producer and Rapper eLDee and singer Segun Obe) announced So Fly winner of the second edition of Jay’s Search at Oriental Hotel Lekki on December 16, 2011.

23 year old Ormali Daniel, a graduate of the Nnamdi Azikwe University Akwa battled nine others for the grand prize of 300,000, a Kopykats Entertainment recording deal for one single, one music video, a makeover/photo shoot, airplay, promotions and publicity, and was announced winner after two rounds of performance.

The first round saw him perform his own composition “Ihuoma” which got the crowd cheering. “You are the best performer I have seen here today” one of the judges Segun Demuren said to him’ after his first performance.

“I really have nothing to say to you except that it was good, very impressive” eLDee says

But with the second performance, the judges did not hesitate to give their honest opinion

“I don’t think you chose the right song” Segun Obe says after he rendered Wande Coal’s Ololufe. He continues, “You have the voice, persona and stage presence which is what we are looking for in Jay’s Search, but there’s more to being an artiste, picking the right song is really important”

Put together by the Aboderin family in honor of their late brother Jaiye Aboderin, 23 year old undergraduate, OluwaSunbo Olundegun (BigMa) emerged winner of the first edition of Jay Search in 2009. Big Ma went home with a cash prize of N150,000, a record deal with T.W.O’s Kopykats Entertainment which includes, an opportunity to release one audio single, a music video, do a photo shoot and be properly packaged in readiness for the industry, all courtesy of Jay Search.

“I’m so excited, and I’m happy my trip from Kaduna to Lagos paid off” Daniel tells journalists “I was scared at some point when the judges said it was a tie between myself and Tayhor Phillips. But then, the audience saved me and I’d be forever grateful to them”

Jaiye Aboderin died on December 3, 2004, aged 33. He slumped and died after a game of basketball. While alive Jaiye touched the lives of many in the entertainment industry, including musicians, actors and comedians alike. In tribute to him Freestyle, Mode9, Rugged man with Tunde and Wunmi Obe put together a song titled “Tribute to Jay” in 2007. He left behind a wife- Actress Stella Damasus and two daughters, Angelica and Isabel.

EIGHT ARTISTES BATTLE FOR JAIYE ABODERIN PRIZE

In preparation for the grand finale scheduled for December 16, 2011, organizers of Jay’s Search 2011 took time off their busy schedule to audition 20 contestants on Thursday, December 1, 2011 at Protea Hotel, GRA Ikeja, Lagos.

The judges Segun Obe, Wunmi Obe, Tunde Obe, Folusho Olateju Leigh, Dewale Adenmosun and Angela Emuwa had a filled day screening talents who came out from the nooks and crannies of Nigeria before they eventually made a decision to pick eight people.
“I can assure you that we got more than we bargained for” Wunmi Obe, Jaiye Aboderin’s elder sister says “infact the initial plan was to pick six people, but we just couldn’t bear to see these talents waste, hence we have eight finalists”

Kaduna based Daniel Oramali and 13 year old Awoyemi Tolulope will join Akanji Abiodun,Olusola Lasisi, Aiyegbusi Tolu, Ilori Alaba, Odemonke Bassey and Temitayo Ogunbusola to slug it out for the grand prize of N250, 000, a Kopykats Entertainment recording deal for one single, one music video, a makeover/photo shoot, airplay, promotions and publicity on December 16, at an exciting evening of music, comedy, dinner and dance.

That is not all N100, 000 cash goes to the 1st runner-up while the 2nd runner-up gets N75, 000 cash. The other three finalists will also get consolation cash prizes of N50, 000 each.
“Winners will be selected by the guests whose votes would make up 40%, while our judges made up of individuals of reputable standing in today’s music industry, would make up 60%” Wunmi Obe says

For winning the Jaiye Aboderin Next rated category, the two acts each got a cash prize of 100,000 Naira, alongside the prestigious award.

JAY SEARCH KICKS OFF DECEMBER 16, 2011


The exciting and entertaining Talent hunt show Put together by the Aboderin family in honor of their late brother Jaiye Aboderin- Jay’s Search will kick off in a matter of days!

Jay Search is a bi-annual music talent search dedicated to the memory of late Jaiye Aboderin (1971-2004), who died December 3rd 2004 after he slumped during a casual game of basketball with friends.

In a statement released this week, the committee says “All is now set for this year’s Jay Search. Online auditions ended on Monday November 14, 2011, and we are finally set for the live auditions. We have a total of Twenty (20) finalists for this phase”. The grand finale will take place on December 16, 2011, at the grand ball room of the Lagos Oriental Hotel, Lekki and six (6) finalists will slug it out for a cash prize of N250, 000, a Kopykats Entertainment recording deal for one single, one music video, a makeover/photo shoot, airplay, promotions and publicity, during an exciting evening of music, comedy, dinner and dance. N100, 000 cash goes to the 1st runner-up while the 2nd runner-up gets N75, 000 cash. The remaining 3 finalists will also get consolation cash prizes of N50, 000 each.
