MTV BASE TO AIR SPECIAL HIGHLIGHTS OF MTV AFRICA ALL STARS WITH SNOOP LION ON AFRICA DAY, MAY 25TH


If you weren't lucky enough to be at Durban's People's Park this weekend for MTV Africa All Stars gig, then don't despair; tune into the TV premiere of “MTV Africa All Stars KwaZulu-Natal with Snoop Lionthis Saturday for a dazzling special on the historic concert (MTV Base, DStv Channel 322, 25 May @16:00 CAT).

More than 12,000 music fans of all ages rocked Durban’s People’s Park, Moses Mabhida Stadium on Saturday 18 May as MTV Base and KwaZulu-Natal Province staged the sensational All Stars concert, MTV Africa All Stars KwaZulu-Natal with Snoop Lion.  The sell-out concert featured show-stopping performances from Snoop Lion and an all star lineup of Africa’s biggest contemporary music stars, including 2Face, D’Banj, Fally Ipupa, Flavour, Professor, Big Nuz, Camp Mulla, Zakes Bantwini and Zahara. DJ Cleo and DJ Caise performed, while DJ Tira took to the stage as part of Big Nuz's set.
The outdoor gig was a triumph from the moment Camp Mulla opened the concert with “Fresh All Day”, to the finale where Snoop Lion was joined on stage by all the African artists.  Highlights included Snoop Lion’s first appearance on stage singing “Here Comes the King”, dressed in a traditional leopard skin Zulu outfit gifted him by members of the Zulu royal family, a beautiful acoustic version of “Loliwe” by Zahara, a bubble-strewn performance of “La Vie est Belle” by Congolese artist Fally Ipupa, a typically upbeat set by Big Nuz, and a high octane finale of “Young, Wild & Free” by Snoop Lion and the African All Stars, in which every member of the audience joined.

Other show-stopping moments included a duet of “Mr Endowed” by Snoop Lion and D'Banj, while Big Nuz, Zakes Bantwini and Professor did their best to teach Snoop Lion some new moves, Zulu-style!
State-of-the-art lighting saw People’s Park bathed in a kaleidoscope of colour, while a stunning LED light show, gorgeous graphics, CO2 jets, pyrotechnics, giant globes and confetti canons completed the out-of-this-world staging on the gigantic purpose built All Stars stage. 

Tweeting after the concert, Nigerian “kokomaster” D’Banj (@iamdbanj) said, “Wanna thank Durban fr a wonderful time @MTVBaseAfrica fr putting together a great show.  To my uncle @SnoopDogg for making history in Africa”.

“MTV Africa All Stars KwaZulu-Natal” will premiere on TV on MTV Base (DStv Channel 322) and terrestrial TV partners from Saturday 25 May at 16:00.  The concert will also feature in two separate episodes of MTV’s critically acclaimed “World Stage” franchise, to be broadcast to more than half a billion households worldwide.  “MTV World Stage: Snoop Lion” will premiere on MTV (DStv Channel 130) across Africa on Friday 28 June, while “MTV World Stage: Africa All Stars” will air in September 2013.

SNOOP LION ARRIVES DURBAN, SOUTH AFRICA FOR THE MTV ALL STARS CONCERT.

... Promises Fans Unforgettable Performances Of His Greatest Hit Songs.

Internationally acclaimed rap king, Snoop Lion formerly known as Snoop Dogg promised eager fans a stellar performance of some of the greatest hits that pushed him to fame.

The multiple award winning rapper who received a Kwazulu Natal ceremonial welcome from a Kwazulu-Natal dance troupe upon his arrival in Durban, South Africa had a meet and greet with the media and fans who came from different parts of the world to witness the first of its kind African concert.

Snoop Lion said "Coming back to my African roots to perform alongside Africa's most talented acts has always been a dream for me. This concert will witness the best of Snoop Dogg and Snoop Lion tomorrow as I will be performing a lot of tracks which pushed me into lime light. I also can't wait to witness performances from my African brothers and I'm honoured to MTV Base for this initiative".

Alex Okosi, Vice President of Viacom International also commented at the Africa All Stars press conference "MTV Africa All Stars concert is about celebrating African talents who have gained international recognition through their hard work. We want to set a legacy for up and coming acts so that each year, they will have the opportunity to perform alongside international artistes using the Africa All Stars platform."



Nigerian superstar, Dbanj who was also present at the press conference expressed his anticipation towards the concert. "I'm really excited to be here and I can't wait to perform on the same stage with Africa's most celebrated stars. The Africa All Stars initiative is an impressive platform that brings African talents together to celebrate African Music and I'm glad to be a part of it."

Tickets have already sold out for this historic concert as music lovers have trooped into Durban, South Africa in their numbers to see Africa's greatest performers on one big stage.

DJ CAISE COMPLETES MTV AFRICA ALL STARS LINE UP WITH SNOOP LION, 2FACE, DBANJ, OTHERS!

Durban music lovers are gearing up for the concert of a lifetime and a full scale all star invasion as organisers and musicians involved with MTV Africa All Stars KwaZulu-Natal with Snoop Lion, start arriving in the city.

Plans are hotting up for the urban beat-fest being staged jointly by KwaZulu-Natal Province and music channel MTV Base (DStv Channel 322).  The concert will feature live performances by urban giant Snoop Lion (formerly known as Snoop Dogg) and an all star lineup from across the continent including 2Face, D’Banj, Fally Ipupa, Flavour, Professor, Big Nuz, Camp Mulla, Zakes Bantwini and Zahara.

In addition, two of South Africa’s biggest DJs have been signed up for the concert, with DJ Tira and DJ Cleo guaranteed to keep the crowd on their feet at the awesome open air gig.

They’ll be joined by Nigeria’s DJ Caise (@DjCaise), creator and leading exemplar of the “Gidihousemusic” scene In addition, Dr. Duda, J’something and Mo-T, otherwise known as multiple SAMA award winners and dance music phenomenon Mi Casa, will be thrilling fans at the official MTV Africa All Stars pre-party at Moyo on 17 May.

Stars, crew, media, dancers and celebrities are flying in from all over the world for the All Stars gig.  Work has already begun on building the giant concert stage at People’s Park, Moses Mabhida Stadium, with MTV staff and contractors working round the clock to deliver an out-of-this-world live music experience.

INTERNATIONAL ACTS, FALLY IPUPA AND PROFESSOR JOIN ARTISTE LINEUP AT MTV ALL STARS CONCERT IN SOUTH AFRICA


Fally Ipupa (@fallyipupa01) and Professor (@professorkalawa) are the latest stars to sign up for MTV Africa All Stars KwaZulu-Natal with Snoop Lion, the urban music extravaganza staged by MTV Base (DStv Channel 322) and KwaZulu-Natal Province in Durban.

MTV Africa All Stars KwaZulu-Natal is fast shaping up as the most exciting urban music event of the decade asFally Ipupa and Professor join previously announced artists Snoop Lion (@SnoopLion)2Face(@2faceidibia), Flavour (@2niteFlavour) and Zakes Bantwini (@ZakesBantwiniSA) on the bill for the concert.  

The event is being staged at the Moses Mabhida Stadium (@MMStadium), People’s Park, in Durban on 18 May.
Charismatic Congolese star Fally Ipupa, who first made a musical impact with hits like "Eternellement" and "Ko Ko Ko Ko" alongside veteran musician Koffi Olomide, is making a rare trip to South Africa for the All Stars gig.  Ipupa made his mark as a solo artist after the 2006 release of his debut album “Droit Chemin. His 2009 album “Arsenal de Belles Mélodies” brought him to global attention; thanks to hits like "Chaise Electrique", a bilingual love song featuring former G-Unit vocalist Olivia.  Blending a silky smooth voice with a range of music genres from soukous to ndombolo, pop and R&B, Ipupa has won legions of fans and music industry accolades. In 2010 he took home two MTV Africa Music Awards, one for Best Video ("Sexy Dance" featuring Krys) and another for Best Francophone Artist Ipupa recently announced that he has been signed to Universal Music France for a 3-album deal – a significant endorsement for the DRC-based singer.


Well known for his jaw-dropping beats and catchy lyrics, Durban native and South African kwaito guru Professor hit the headlines with his first solo album “University of Kalawa Jazmee”, thanks to hypnotic hits such as “Jezebel”, “Lento” and “Jimaphi” which filled club dance-floors and dominated the radio airwaves across South Africa. Recognition of his talents came at the 2011 MTN South African Music Awards, where he won Best Kwaito AlbumBest Male & Record of the Year, and Professor has since been making more waves thanks to the success of his second album, Orientation.

FLAVOUR TO PERFORM ALONGSIDE SNOOP LION AT MTV AFRICA ALL STARS CONCERT IN DURBAN, SOUTH AFRICA


Nigerian high life artiste Flavour (@flavournabania) and South African house sensation Zakes Bantwini (@ZakesBantwiniSA) will join the “all star” line-up at MTV Africa All Stars – KwaZulu-Natal, the sensational open-air concert brought to you by MTV Base (DStv Channel 322) and KZN Province.
Bantwini and Flavour will join US entertainment icon and multi-platinum hip hop star turned reggae artist Snoop Lion(@SnoopLion) aka Snoop Dogg, at the 5-hour open air concert at the stunning Moses Mabhida Stadium, People’s Park Durban on 18 May.

After his continental smash hit “Nwa Baby Remix” and his massively successful collaborations with Tiwa Savage and Fally Ipupa, high-life artist Flavour N’abania, aka Chinedu Okoli, continues to be Africa's most requested artist, regularly collecting frequent flyer miles while jetting across the continent even as far as USA and Europe.  He’s also become a regular fixture in Dubai and the Far East.

Zakes Bantwini is without doubt South Africa's most prolific live performer: there is not a single stage in South Africa that this music mogul and leading light on the SA music scene has not shut down! His songs “Wasting My Time”, “Bum Bum” and most recently “Karolina” have been burning up airwaves across the continent and have all been remixed by some of the biggest names in house.

Music authority MTV Base is to set Lagos ablaze with an all star urban club night featuring performances from 2face (@2faceidibia)Davido (@iam_Davido) and Ice Prince (@Iceprincezamani), with a special guest appearance from South African urban giant, Professor (@professorkalawa).

“MTV Africa All Stars” - brought to you by The KwaZulu-Natal Province, taking place at the Federal Palace Hotel on Saturday 13 April 2013is part of the sensational new pan-African music and youth empowerment campaign that salutes the star quality and widespread appeal of contemporary African musicians, and provides exposure to the continent’s hottest musical innovators and pacesetters.  Hosted jointly by MTV Base (DStv Channel 322) and the KwaZulu-Natal Province, MTV Africa All Stars also aims to raise the international profile of KwaZulu-Natal as a premier destination for tourism and economic development.
