Tiwa Savage Makes First Appearance on The Trek

…2Face, Timaya, Wande Coal, M.I Also Set to Perform at IBB Square Makurdi

Thousands of enthusiastic fans will this week converge at IBB Square, Makurdi as the second concert off the 10 city 10 week line up for Star Music Trek holds on April 5^th2014 in the sprawling city.

Fan favorites Tiwa Savage, 2Face, Timaya, Wande Coal and M.I will be mounting the stage as the momentum increases less than one week into The Trek.

The first stage of Star Music Trek 2014 held on Saturday March 29^th at Local Government Stadium Nsukka, with eager fans storming the venue in a bid to watch some of their favorite artistes perform.

The first lady of The Trek, Tiwa Savage, notes “I’m bringing Eminado live to the city of Makurdi, so happy to be back here performing for my fans.”

“Just be sure that we’ll be holding that stage down in Makurdi from start to finish, so don't miss out!,” the sultry singer enthuses.

 “I don’t know any other place, anyone would rather be at on April 5^th, Wande Coal acknowledges, “ Me and the crew are going to shut it down at IBB Square on April 5^th.”  “Expect everything you’ve ever wanted in a concert like this,” Dr SID promises…”and more.”

A pre- gig party will hold on April 4th 2014 at Pages Garden & Park, Makurdi, with lots of fantastic branded prizes such as phones, TVs and much more up for grabs.

Artistes on the Trek this year include 2face, Tiwa Savage, M.I, Olamide, Davido, Wizkid, Wande Coal, Sound Sultan, Pasuma, Mr Raw, Timaya, Dr Sid, Naeto C, KCee, Sean Tizzle, Phyno and May D.

Star Music Trek 2014 will be touring nine other cities: Uyo, Umuahia. Orlu, Ekwulobia, Onitsha, Benin, Ado Ekiti culminating in a spectacular grand finale which will hold at Jalisco Sports Center, Oshodi, Lagos State.

DON JAZZY'S MAVIN RECORDS RELEASES NEW ALBUM: SOLAR PLEXUS #FREEDOWNLOAD

We updated you guys yesterday about the latest news in the Nigerian entertainment industry, that being Don Jazzy and his new record label - MAVIN including artists like Tiwa Savage, Dr. Sid, D'Prince and Wande Coal.

The album, Solar Plexus just dropped on youtube a couple of minutes ago and it has caused quite an uproar all over the internet. A lot of fans seem to have mixed feelings about this album because they felt like Don Jazzy could've taken his time instead of rushing the album. Others think the album is one of the best yet.

DON JAZZY LAUNCHES NEW LABEL - MAVIN RECORDS FT. WANDE COAL, D'PRINCE, DR. SID AND TIWA SAVAGE

As you all know, it really was the end of a long era between two very famous entertainers in the Nigerian music industry, Don Jazzy and D'Banj. This news did not bring smiles to many of our faces but we are glad to see that these guys are doing well and ready to move on to something even better.

Don Jazzy just opened a new label called Mavin Records, featuring some of the artists who used to work for him: Wande Coal, D'Prince, Dr. Sid and a newest addicition, the Nigerian eye candy Tiwa Savage. Mavin means Someone who is dazzlingly skilled in any field and it is a compilation of album featuring the artists listed earlier. It will be released on the 8th of May, 2012.

JOBA, CHIDINMA AND EMMANUEL GRACEFULLY BOW OUT OF MTN PROJECT FAME WEST AFRICA!

Contestants go down memory lane with Classical music…

On Saturday, November 19, 2011, the number of contestants at this year’s edition of MTN Project Fame West Africa was reduced from 13 to 10 contestants as Joba, Chidinma and Emmanuel were eliminated from the popular music talent competition. The three contestants were among the seven contestants with the lowest votes put up for eviction last week. The other four contestants on probation were Roy, Racheal, Princess and Ruth.
As usual, after performances by the contestants on probation, the moment of truth came: the total number of votes from the viewing public saved Racheal. The judges decided to save Roy thereby extending his run in the competition. Next up was the Faculty and after commending the contestants, they decided to save the eccentric Ruth based on her development in the academy. The contestants who were not up for eviction then had the unpleasant job of saving only one of their fellow contestants and after a lot of tension, they decided to save Princess.

With Racheal, Roy, Ruth and Princess saved, it automatically meant that Joba, Chidinma and Emmanuel had been eliminated from the show. Taking it all in good stride, they showed their appreciation in taking part in the competition and promised to storm the music industry soon
enough. Wande Coal later thrilled the audience as he closed the show with an amazing performance from his “Mushin to MoHits” album.

On Sunday, November 20, 2011, the ten contestants remaining in the academy took us down memory lane with back to back classic cuts.They opened the show with group performances and they featured the PlayHouse Voices to back them up. Ethel, Monica, Ruth, Racheal and
Isaac performed “Rivers Of Babylon” by Bonnie M. Yvonne, Velma, Ese, Roy and Princess also performed “Earth Song” by Micheal Jackson. Each contestant soon entertained everyone with individual performances singing Classic songs from music icons like Aretha Franklyn, Barry
White, Abba, Diana Ross among others. The audience, judges and members of the faculty all had a feel of the rich intense performances.

“I must admit that I am very pleased to be here to experience tonight’s show. I have heard a lot of very strong and rich voices tonight and I must commend all of you for pleasing us with your
performances.” Music Producer, Song writer and Singer, Cobhams who was the guest judge for the night admitted.

“Tonight we are going to be judging you on your notes and how well you interpreted the characters in the songs you performed. Some of you lost it along the way with flat notes here and there while some of you did a very good job delivering your keys and entered your characters well so our judgement would be based on these key elements tonight.” Nomoreloss explained to the contestants.

The contestants on probation this week are Ethel, Velma, Ese, Ruth, Roy and Isaac so they have to do the extra work to impress the audience and the judges. To save your favorite contestant from eviction, text the contestants number to 306 from an MTN line. Each text costs N50 and voting ends on Friday.

MO’HIT’S STARS STORM BENIN, PORTHARCOURT AND WARRI FOR MTN FUNLINK CAMPUS CONCERT

Top Nigerian artistes recently visited the beautiful city of Benin, Port Harcourt, Sokoto and Warri for the MTN Funlink campus concert tagged “Who ROCKS da MO”.

Project Fame winners, Iyanya and Myk joined the Mo’Hit’s crew- D banj, D Prince, Wande Coal, Dr Sid and K-Switch to thrill students from different campuses Also in attendance was Comedian, Seyi Law who hosted the shows. Students came to take part in the fun and got the chance to win exciting prizes from participating in various competitions that held at the concert.

The youth segment of leading telecommunication brand, MTN Nigeria started the Funlink campus concerts in October. It is expected that they visit six major campuses in Nigeria.

Funlink Campus concert will hold in Abeokuta on Thursday October 17, 2011 before the final campus concert which would hold in Lagos.

Keep The Change (A PMAN tale) - Banky W

"When you're finished changing, you're finished" - Benjamin Franklin

PMAN (The Performing Musicians' Employers Association of Nigeria) had their Annual Delegates Conference to Elect New Leadership for the next two years on Wednesday the 26th of January. The Conference was held in Osogbo, Osun State and hosted Delegates, Members and Representatives of PMAN from all over Nigeria who were present to decide the future of the Union. The conference also saw the brief attendance of PMAN's founding President, the Legendary King Sunny Ade, current Governor of Osun State Alhaji Rauf Aregbesola, as well as Former President Chief Tony Okoroji.

The truth of the matter is that, over the years, there has been a major disconnect between PMAN and the very professionals it is supposed to represent and/or protect. At its inception, this is a snapshot of who the founding members were: Chief (Mrs.) Christy Essien Igbokwe, King Sunny Ade (KSA), Evang. Sunny Okosuns (late), Chief Ebenezer Obey, Lemmy Jackson, Tee-Mac Omatshola Iseli, Emma Ogosi, Laolu Akins, Funmi Adams, Oby Onyioha, Maliki Showman, Harry Mosco, King Pago, Bobby Benson etc. Anyone remotely familiar with Nigerian Music History will agree that this was in the very least, an excellent representation of who were the significant PERFORMING MUSICIANS of that era. Fast forward to today; PMAN is now a shadow of what it used to be, and essentially a disgrace to the legacy those that came before us put forth. Nigerian Musicians are achieving worldwide success in leaps and bounds, yet a snapshot of today's union shows that absolutely NONE of the significant musicians representing Nigeria are involved in the runnings of PMAN. Nigerian Musicians have accomplished great things in spite of a Union that no longer cares or caters to their needs; in spite of a Union that has been run down by greed, poor leadership and an archaic mentality; in spite of a Union that has alienated the very Professionals it is supposed to care for.

They say you should "be the change you want to see in the world". It was with this in mind, that today's crop of Nigerian Musicians attempted to rejoin PMAN en masse, and get involved in its leadership. We heard through the grapevine that the current administration's leadership term had come to end, and that the Organization was as frustrated as we the artistes were about the state of things. There were tales of offices shutting down, of staff salaries being unpaid, of rundown or nonexistent studios around the country and a total lack of organization; and so the artistes held a series of meetings. We all came up with a team of executives amongst ourselves, that we felt represented a cross section of Nigerian Music today. A team that did not necessarily comprise of the most popular musicians, but a team that on the one hand represented a solid cross section of Nigerian Music, as well as one that would be willing and able to put in the work necessary to right a sinking ship. The team included names like: eLDee The Don, Mr Cool, KSB, M.I., Sound Sultan, Ed Jatto, Efe Omoruegbe of Now Music etc.

The team made the journey to Osogbo along with other people including D'banj, Don Jazzy, Jesse Jagz, Wande Coal, 2Shotz, Dr Sid, D'Prince, Ice Prince, Baba Dee, and yours truly Banky W. Other artistes who were part of the meetings but did not make the trip included P'Square, 9ice, Tuface Idibia, WizKid and Skales. That we were able to assemble such an incredible cast of people under such short notice was a miracle in and of itself, but it also goes to show the frustration with the way things are and the willingness to work to bring about change. The purpose of our making the trip was to appeal to the powers that be at PMAN to vote for and put in the new team of leaders, and give them (us) a chance at resuscitating a failed Union; a chance at restoring PMAN to its glory days; a chance at restoring it to a place of relevance and a chance at Uniting the Body with the very members its supposed to comprise of. Safe to say I believe even the founders would have been proud at the Contingent of Artistes behind this movement, as I'm sure that's what they envisioned when they started this years ago.

What we found when we arrived in Osogbo was heart breaking. A system that is in rot and decay; a mindset that is so stuck in the ways of the past and an unwillingness to accept the realities of the present, much less step into the future. One would think that PMAN officials and delegates would accept the appeals coming from its Musicians; if they had accepted us, PMAN would automatically become a force to be reckoned with overnight as it would now TRULY represent all Nigerian Musicians, young and old; those in the limelight and those in the twilight of their careers.

Sadly, this was not to be. We came with respect on our minds, appealing to those that had been in the rundown system for years, to let us help rebuild it. We came "dobale-ing"; we pleaded, begged, offered all kinds of opportunities and the resources at our disposal. We offered to lead but to do so by serving. We offered to help restore relevance; to empower PMAN Nationally and at the State levels and so much more.

We were met with resistance, bitterness, slander and ignorance. People so afraid of any kind of change that they would rather cling on to a sinking ship than reach out and get on to a helicopter. And those that were apparently willing to accept the change, expected us to play the same old ignorant tactics that our corrupt Politicians play to get there. Ironically, what we saw yesterday was reflective of what is wrong with Nigeria as a whole.

We have one message to PMAN, and to Nigeria as a whole. Change will come. It will. They say the only thing that remains constant in Life is Change. The fact that Change will come is inevitable; we can choose to embrace it or evade it, but it will be to our progress or peril.. our development or demise. History is rife with instances where people were given an opportunity to choose either of these options, and the consequences that followed. PMAN was given an opportunity to choose to make History and to choose to change the failed ways of the past, and it declined, because we refused to stoop to reducing our standards. Dear PMAN Delegates (and Nigerian Politicians), please understand that we will NOT buy (or sell) Votes. What we are working for is so much more long term and the payout is infinitely greater than the here and now.

What they refused to realize is this: the ACTUAL Performing Musicians and Recording Artistes in Nigeria are determined to right the wrongs of our industry, with or without PMAN. That they declined is inconsequential to us. Our journey continues, but we strongly believe that they will remember and regret this day.

Our message to PMAN is as Benjamin Franklin once said “When you’re finished changing, you’re finished."

WANDE COAL, OMOTOLA, DJINEE, J MARTINS, GORDONS ROCKED AT NAIJA @ 50, LIVE IN BENUE’

What better way would citizens of the food basket state have loved to celebrate the fiftieth anniversary of Nigeria if not by storming ,the Ibrahim Badamosi Babangida square, Makurdi, Benue state, venue of the Naija at 50 event which brought the “who is whos” of the entertainment industry to the state?

The Naija at 50 event which held Thursday, September 30 was every inch a classy and memorable event as crowd numbering over 40,000 stormed the IBB square to have a glimpse of what celebrities like Wande Coal, Djinee Omotola Jalade Ekehinde, Desmond Ellliot, Uche Jombo, J-Martins, I go die, Monalisa Chinda, Zaaki Azzay Gordons, had in store for them.

Setting the tempo as to what to expect for the night was award winning contemporary pop star, Djinee; he sang out his heart to the audience who couldn’t help but flow along with him.

Love Idoko led Dream Pointers Ltd; the organizer of the show also gave room for budding stars as upcoming musician Mima took the stage next and sang to the delight of the audience. As an upcoming artist, many would have thought that she would reduce the tempo of the fun filled night but her electrifying performance got the audience asking for more.

After Mima, came the turn of the “Nollywooders”- Uche Jumbo, and Monalisa Chinda. They interacted and got along so well with the audience that the barrier that comes in between celebrities and their fans seemed to be nonexistent that night. In fact, A’ list act

ress, Uche Jombo took it a notch higher when she danced to the delight of the crowd who wanted more than a piece of her.

Desmond Elliot, the MC of the night came up after the actresses to introduce J-Martins, the next artist for night and it was a great applause that heralded the entrance of the Oyoyo crooner on stage and he did not disappoint his fans as he performed most of his songs which the audience sang and danced to.

Just after J-Martins was Mo’hits star, Wande Coal, the mention of his name got the crowd wild with ecstasy. He performed some of his hits songs and got the crowd begging for more.

Following the success of the event, Dream Pointer has continued to prove itself as a major force to reckon with in event planning. The company which also publishes Motivation Magazine one of the most popular magazines in the North Central region had hosted Democracy Day concert early this year, which was also a success story.

Wande Coal Nude Photo Saga

Just weeks ago, naked photos of Afro Hiphop star Wande Coal circulated the news feed of facebook users, twitter and other pages. Although Mohits issued a press release saying it wasn't him; indeed, it was Wande Coal.

The degree at which insults have been hurled at Wande is quite alarming. Several websites cooked up stories about the nude photo saga. Some said he was played by a girl he slept with, others said he was drunk and high. Some people even went as far as commenting on his 'size' claiming he was not featured on D'banj's latest single because he wasn't endowed.

We don't know the real deal but we know for a fact that the deed was wrong. Amidst all the alleged stories, the one that stands out is the one that states that the girl that took the picture, published it because she thought it'd be funny for people to see wande naked. This act of foolishness is demeaning, humiliating and uncalled for. We sympathize with Wande Coal for what he's had to go through in the past week and hope that this passes in no time.

Message to all Entertainers

It is important that you maintain a good relationship with your fans, it is also important that you set boundaries. Be careful who you let into your inner chamber.

Message to Fans

You must realize that your favorite celebs are human and have feelings. It is not advisable to do anything to tarnish their good image. You are their backbone and can make or break them. Choose to make rather than break them. Special thanks to all the devoted fans that stood by Wande.
