Nigerian Afropop star and Storm record affiliate YQ stopped by the factory78tv studio's to catch up with the team on the goings on in his career over the last few years. The "I like girls" crooner talked about his recent label situation with Storm records clearing rumours on an exit , his thoughts on singers that cant actually sing and his relationship with the producers that made an impact on his music career.
YQ also breaks his silence on artistes that he feels are setting the standards presently in the Afropop/Afrobeats industry shedding more light on who he looks to work with in the near future with names like Tuface,Wizkid and Wande Coal firmly on his radar.

Here's one dude who's constantly building up a "signature tune" for himself, whilst constantly working with both major and also, up and coming artistes in the Nigerian Music Industry. "Irich" a.k.a "FRESH BEAT" is a prolific producer, song writer and also a singer, who's produced for quite a handful of known artistes in the likes of "YQ", "Klever Jay", "Side 1", and a host of others. His current strings of projects have got him dropping 3 fresh singles, on which he's got features from two different artistes on two out of the 3 singles.
The first track titled "Anytime" featuring YQ [Storm Records] sidelines the lifestyle of an average dude up in the club, hanging out with his fellow dudes and having girls in the club flock over them. The Storm 360/Kilimanjaro, Lagos Shutdown Concert
The Storm 360/Kilimanjaro, Lagos Shutdown Concert, which held on Monday, 27th December, 2010 at the prestigious Expo Center of Eko Hotel will be remembered as the standout show amongst the multitude of events that took place over the festive season.
The concert, which was expertly anchored by the Beat 99.9 FM’s Olisa Adibua, featured American rapper Rick Ross, as the leading artiste of the show. Also on the team of performers were some of Nigeria’s own finest musicians – WizKid, Ice Prince, Dr SID, Sasha, YQ, Naeto C, MI. Together with the talented DJ Neptune, all the artistes thrilled the audience with hit after hit, while Olisa skillfully knitted each part of the concert into a perfect script. As Rick Ross finally stepped on stage, the expectant crowd went wild – even the VIP guests refused to be left out – screaming along the lyrics as he performed his hit tracks, ‘One Nation Under God’ and ‘BMF’.

Abuja who trooped out to the Thisday Dome, CBD to witness the Face of Selara Beauty pageant 2010, a pageant aimed at discovering an intelligent, confident, creative and well spoken young lady to represent Selara Faces Beauty and Style Company as well as a charity event to raise funds for orphanages.

Serenading the guests at the annual event were Naeto C, YQ, Whizkid, Ice Prince, Dj Neptune. Also Miss Oluchi Onourah, a contestant from Lagos emerged winner in the beauty contestan
t which had star actor, Jim Iyke as a judge. As the winner of ace of Selara 2010, Miss Oluchi Onourah is entitled to a Car, N250,000, and two billboards in Lagos and Abuja, she also went home with Selara products.
Speaking on the event, Mrs Arafa Ukonga, MD of Selara faces said “Face Of Selara has come to be a huge success that thousands and this year’s event went well and we raised the notch higher this year, with the artistes, dignataries and guests that were at the event”.
The last two edition of the Face of Selara pageant saw to the crowning of Miss Blessing Osim (2009) and Miss Meg Kaka (2008) as queens and had the audience entertained by top artistes like P square, 9ice, 2 Face, Banky W, Paul Play, Djinee and Omawunmi, however, it is going to be a night of entertainment like never as the 2010 edition Face of Selara is set to lift the bar of its last two editions.

YQ on Y! TV and RoofTop MCs on Y! Radio this week!
They have been around for a decade. In the past 10years, they have thrilled audiences, broken boundaries and inspired people. They are particularly making history by distributing 500,000 copies of their new album free to their family members (as they refer to their fans) and allowing for free download of the album on the Y! About YQ
His history is like that of the ''most known unknown''.
Born 26 years ago as Yakubu Jubril from Kogi state. YQ discovered his crooning abilities By the year 1998, he had gotten really deep into music and decided to do it commercially rather than a hobby. While hanging-out with a promoter who to him was like a Guardian,he came in contact with likes of Father U-turn,Daddy Showkey and Felix Duke for further encouragement. He hooked up with his former partner Krest-up and both formed the group Qkrest. In 2005,they released a musical video for there hit song ''Fire Dance'',which was really hot in Clubs. Alongside his partner,they performed at such big concerts as the play safe Rave by Tequila Events in 2003,in the same year they opened a Show for Magic systems at coca cola show, and in 2007 just before the split,they performed at the Tetnisik show organized by Orangootan Ent.
With the likes of Mode9, Ashionye, Sasha etcetera, YQ is an extremely talented artist who does RnB with a blend of dancehall/reggae,he says music is in his blood. "its my lifestyle...its like something sings inside of me, its like food to my soul, I'm really emotional and I just wanted a way
to express my inner feelings, that's why i'm here." He grew in Lagos with 7 siblings; he was the 2nd born. He struggled through primary and secondary education and after being admitted into Lagos state polytechnic,he dropped out due to inadequate funding. He is presently an OND holder of Kogi State Polytechnic. It may look all rosy now but the journey for YQ wasn't really smooth, encountered oppositions from some family members and actually lost closeness with some relatives for his decision to do music. His parents are now supportive though.As of today, he is with 2Koncept Ent, his smash single ''efimile'' ft dagrin, paved the way for him. YQ says "I believe good music would sell itself. I learn from tight Artistes and wack ones too cos they help realize that while you're aiming to drop tight stuff,trash also sell."
