African fashion appears to be making an exceptional leap to mainstream fashion this year. Although the New York Times attributes this latest interest in African fashion to the seductive sounds and movements of the Broadway hit, “Fela,” we believe Ankara spoke for herself - it's a fabric with a voice.
Everyday, we wake up to the African fabric getting celeb treatment.
Style icon Gwen Stefani rocked her own runway yesterday as she showed off her new collection for her clothing line L.A.M.B.
The 40 year old singer/designer who loves mixing different patterns and fabrics together is undoubtedly in love with the Ankara fabric. She unveiled her fashion label’s collection at the L.A.M.B. Spring 2011 runway show for New York Fashion Week.
Bright splashes of color, lovely flowers, vibrant green plaids sums it all up.
Other American celebrities we've spotted in African print (don't they all look fabulous?)

Top to Bottom (L-R): Solange Knowles, Kimora Lee with Djimon, Kelis, Fergie, Keyshia Cole, Estelle, Erykah Badu, Beyonce, Alicia & Gwen Stefani.
The last picture is a fashion faux pas - someone should have told Gwen that the top & bottom don't match.
