20-year-old Simone Manuel became the first black female swimmer to win an Olympic medal for America when she tied for first place in the 100m freestyle Thursday night. Manuel upset world-record holder Cate Campbell and tied with Penny Oleksiak of Canada at the Rio Games on Thursday.
"I hope that I can be an inspiration to others so this medal is for the people who come behind me and get into the sport and hopefully find love and drive to get to this point," Manuel said.Just 12 hours ago, Simone tweeted: "It is an honor to represent the USA! God is working in me! I am so blessed and grateful. Thank you all so much for your support."
