TAKE THE SPRING HEALTHY EATING CHALLENGE

With New Year’s Resolutions a fading memory, it’s time to renew your focus on eating healthy again. With that in mind, take on a Spring Healthy Eating Challenge. It’s designed to help you change your eating for the better, making small changes, and doing it with friends and family.

Here’s the challenge:
1. Pick one small healthy change to make a week (see list below).
2. Commit publicly to the challenge, and tell everyone what your change is each week (optional).
3. Put your entire focus on making that change happen. Set reminders, put visual reminders around your house.
4. Review at the end of each week. Did you do 5+ days of your change? Success! Tell everyone about it. If not, figure out what your obstacle is and plan to beat it.
5. If you were successful, pick another change to make the next week, but also continue your first change. By the end of the four weeks, you should have four solid changes if all goes well. If you weren’t successful, just continue the same change (or pick a different one if you didn’t like that one) and try again, but this time with a plan to get around the obstacle.

This is a general recipe for making small changes in your life, but healthy eating can be especially difficult, so it may be helpful to do this challenge with your family and friends.

Small Healthy Eating Changes
Here are some ideas for small changes.
  1. Add a vegetable to lunch
  2. Add a vegetable to dinner
  3. Eat a vegetable or fruit for a snack
  4. Add fruit to breakfast
  5. Prepare a healthy snack for when you feel like snacking (carrots, grapes, nuts, banana, raisins)
  6. Change a grain at lunch to a whole grain
  7. Change a grain at dinner to a whole grain
  8. Find a healthy breakfast recipe and try it
  9. Pick a healthy recipe and cook 2 to 3 days’ worth of it (there are thousands online)
  10. Pick a healthier protein for one meal (lean meats, plant-based protein)
  11. Eat no fried foods
  12. Replace sweets with fruit
  13. No liquid calories before lunch (tea, water and black coffee are okay)
  14. No liquid calories after lunch (tea, water and black coffee are okay)
  15. Reduce alcohol intake to one drink
  16. Drink more water (set your goal yourself)
  17. Create a daily meal plan
  18. Control portion sizes (set your goal yourself)
  19. Eat slowly and mindfully for one meal a day
  20. Eat whole food instead of prepared food for one meal a day
  21. Eat a salad every day
  22. Replace soda with water or tea
  23. Before going for seconds, take a 5-minute break
  24. Cook one meal a day at home
  25. Discover the pleasures of a new food
  26. Add more fiber to your diet (vegetables, whole grains, nuts, beans)
  27. Switch starches for non-starchy veggies at one meal a day
  28. Try cooking dinner without using oil or added fat
Again, these are just a few ideas to get you started. Brainstorm a list of healthy eating changes that you'd like to make in your life!

IBK SPACESHIPBOI MAKES AD MUSIC FOR THE 2019 GRAMMY AWARDS SHOW

The Grammys has been known to celebrate artistic excellence in the music industry, so its ad campaigns often depict the recording academy’s eccentric taste in music, coupled with its knack for something out of the ordinary. In anticipation of its 61st awards show, the recording academy released a #LetsHearIt ad on its Instagram account on Friday, Dec 7, 2018.

The 27 seconds ad featured music from none other than Nigeria’s own IBK Spaceshipboi. IBK Spaceshipboi, who is as renowned for his career as an artist as he is for his work as a producer, made history as the first Nigerian to make music for a Grammy ad.

Earlier today, IBK Spaceshipboi reposted the ad video and shared the good news via Instagram. He wrote: Music by: IBK SPACESHIPBOI. 🙌🏽🙌🙌🏿🙌🏼   I remember my first time pushing the "on" button to watch American television. I am a sucker for commercials so I watched the ads religiously so much so that my girlfriend at the time would yell from the living room "they are showing your commercials oh!". I told myself "1 day, you will create music that will be on one of these commercials". So I started paying attention to the genres of music that thrived in that industry and became inspired to create 6 pieces at the time. Fast forward 2 years later, I get a call from the awesome team at Sostereo saying the Grammy's would love to use 1 of my pieces for the 2019 commercial and would love if you could spruce it up a bit. So spruce it I did 😁 and the rest is good history. From thought to reality, my music now plays on a Grammy commercial on American television. This Warri boy from Nigeria; God writes the story, we just act it out.
#GRAMMYs #goodmusic #music #commercial #nominations #grammy2019 #greatness #rock #award #predestined #excellence #blackexcellence #dreamscometrue #yourdreamsarevalid #producer #naijatotheworld #anythingispossible #tvcommerials #theGRAMMYs #GRAMMYcommercial #african #bestband #musicflow #themusicexplorer #live #LetsHearIt

IBK Spaceshipboi should probably add HistoryMaker to his profile, considering the fact that he made history with his 2017 album titled “MUSIC FOR COMMERCIALS VOL. 1 – A SPACESHIPBOI EXPERIMENT.” The 10 minute album featuring 10 songs in 10 different genres was the first of its kind. He also made history when he created the music content for the BET CYPHER featuring Nigeria rap acts at the BET HIP-HOP AWARDS 2011. He has lived up to the Spaceshipboi name, consistently crafting something out of space. It’s no wonder that his craft is Grammy ad worthy. The Grammys is America’s biggest music awards show and we’re proud to know that IBK Spaceshipboi made commercial music for the 2019 Grammy ad. #LetsHearIt for IBK Spaceshipboi for this awesome achievement.

6 FACTS YOU PROBABLY DIDN'T KNOW - BLACK HISTORY MONTH

Black History Month is an annual celebration of achievements by African Americans and a time for
recognizing the central role of blacks in U.S. history. The event grew out of “Negro History Week,” the brainchild of noted historian Carter G. Woodson and other prominent African Americans.

Since 1976, every U.S. president has officially designated the month of February as Black History Month. Other countries around the world, including Canada and the United Kingdom, also devote a month to celebrating black history. The contributions of African-Americans have been invaluable to our society at large. While there is no blueprint for how to celebrate Black History Month, there are many things to do in and around your city as we celebrate this special month.

Here at Olamild Ent., we are celebrating by sharing these 6 facts that you probably never knew.

► You probably know that Maya Angelou was the first African-American woman to write a non-fiction best-seller. But perhaps you don't know that Phillis Wheatley was the first published African- American female author. She was a servant who published her first poem at the age of 12 in the mid-1700s.

► Liberia was founded and colonized by expatriates. The West African country is one of two sovereign states in the world started as a colony for ex-slaves and marginalized blacks. Sierra Leone is the other.

► Lincoln University in Pennsylvania is the United States' first degree-granting historically black university. It paved the way for the 104 other historically black colleges, which have produced distinguished alums like Thurgood Marshall, Spike Lee and Oprah.

► Shirley Chisholm was the first black woman elected to Congress in 1968 and the first black major-party presidential candidate.

► Tice Davids, a runaway slave from Kentucky, was the inspiration for the first usage of the term “Underground Railroad.” When he swam across the Ohio River to freedom, his former owner assumed he’d drowned and told the local paper if Davids had escaped, he must have traveled on "an underground railroad." (Davids actually made it alive and well.)

► You might know that Ella Fitzgerald and Count Basie were the first African-Americans to win GRAMMY Awards. But did you know that Hattie McDaniel, the first African-American to win an Oscar, was not allowed to attend the national premier of Gone with the Wind, the film featuring her winning performance, because she was black?

EVANGELIST BILLY GRAHAM DIES AT AGE 99

Billy Graham, one of the world's most famous Christian evangelists, has died, a family spokesman said today. He was 99. Graham died at his North Carolina home this morning, the spokesman said.

Known as "America's pastor," Graham was a key figure in the revival of the U.S. evangelical
Christian movement. The preacher began holding revival meetings in the 1940s and went on to become an adviser to several U.S. presidents. He had been in poor health in recent years, and had turned his international ministry over to son Franklin Graham.

  • He spoke to over 200 million people in his lifetime.
  • He met every American president starting with Harriet Truman all the way to Barrack Obama
  • He was a key figure in reviving the American evangelical movement.
  • He was the first Christian to preach publicly behind the iron curtain.
Despite numerous hospitalizations in recent years, Graham's work remained in the public eye late into his life. In 2011, around his 93rd birthday, he released what The Associated Press said was his 30th book, "Nearing Home: Life, Faith, and Finishing Well," on the subject of aging. Also in 2011, audio files documenting six decades of his ministry were put online in a searchable database. Graham brought evangelical Christianity into the mainstream.

As a spiritual adviser to U.S. presidents, he had great access to the White House. "Each one I've known long before they ever became president, been in their homes many times; always called them by their first names, until they became president," Graham said of several former presidents.

He was especially close to Dwight D. Eisenhower, Lyndon Johnson, Richard Nixon, Ronald Reagan and both Bushes. Bill Clinton turned to him after his much publicized sex scandal, and George W. Bush credited Graham with helping him to quit drinking alcohol. When asked how his life would be different if it were not for Billy Graham, George W. Bush said simply, "I wouldn't be president."

Donald and Melania Trump met Graham at the preacher's 95th birthday party in 2013, but they never met after Trump took office as president. The evangelist brought his "Billy Graham Crusades" around the world, preaching to more than 210 million people in 185 countries and territories. His largest such gathering drew 1 million people in Seoul, South Korea, in the 1970s.

GOOGLE DOODLE IN NIGERIA HONORS THE BIG BOSS STEPHEN KESHI

Today we celebrate the life of Nigerian football icon Stephen Keshi. Football took Keshi all over the
world, as he played across Africa, Europe, and the US. Known affectionately as “Big Boss,” he was beloved as a player for Nigeria’s national team, where he earned more than 60 caps, each for an appearance in an international match, and represented the country at the FIFA World Cup and Africa Cup of Nations.

After his great success as a player, Keshi moved into the next phase of his career: coaching. When the “Big Boss” became coach of the Togo national team, he brought his trademark passion with him. Against the odds, Keshi led Togo all the way to a qualifying spot in the 2006 World Cup in Germany.

He achieved his personal dream in 2011, when he became the Nigerian national coach, cementing his place in African (and world) football history. Coaching the Nigerian team, Keshi won the African Cup of Nations in 2013, and in 2014 became the first coach of an African nation to make it to the knockout round of a World Cup.

Keshi is one of only two men to win the Africa Cup of Nations as both a player and a manager - a testament to his wit, talent, and love for the sport.

A big cheer for this football legend, on what would’ve been his 56th birthday!

MAKE NAIJA STRONGER: OVER 210,000 NIGERIAN WOMEN DIE IN ONE YEAR! DOCUMENTARY BY ALI NUHU FOR THE ONE CAMPAIGN

- In Kantudu community, there is no doctor, no medicine and cows serve as ambulances

In 2017, Kannywood Star Ali Nuhu and the ONE Campaign visited Kantudu community in Kano where they experienced first-hand, the stark reality of the health care crisis in Nigeria. In Kantudu community, the health care centre is in tatters, the centre lacks facilities, manpower and even medicine; women and children are the most vulnerable. With no ambulance in sight, the community employs the use of cows hitched to a cart to carry the ill to the medical centre.

According to the National Health Act 2014, all Nigerians shall be entitled to a basic minimum package of health services. Without this basic package of services, Nigerian mothers will continue to die at high rates in childbirth while others die from illnesses like diabetes, and the lack of emergency medical treatment for road traffic injuries.

Serah Makka-Ugbabe, the ONE in Nigeria Country Director said in a statement released in Abuja: “The Nigerian health sector remains in crisis. In the last decade we have not seen appreciable enhancements to the quality of healthcare for Nigerians. Instead, we have observed a decline. How long will we continue accept such decay in the health sector? It is time for a step-change. It is time to ensure that all Nigerians have access to maternal, newborn, immunization, emergency and routine care at a minimum standard.
