LIVE UPDATES FROM THE ENOUGHISENOUGH RALLY IN ABUJA

A coalition of prominent youth leaders and young people from across the country rose from a strategy meeting in Lagos and announced plans for a protest rally against happenings in the governance of the country.

The rally was held @ the National Assembly in Abuja. Although the rally was slated for 11 a.m., the Nigerian police gathered at 9 a.m. to block the entrance. The youths gathered for change in the

affairs of Nigeria. Debola Williams and Dele Momodu addressed the police at one point. Frustrated Omotola Jalade Ekeinde at one point yelled " we are tired of the usual, we have not come for the usual. Come out and speak to us." After hours of waiting and chanting, the crowd switched to Plan B Mode - they sat on the bare floor insisting that bankole and mark come out.

Col. Okere, Sergent-at-Arms at the National Assembly eventually came out to say that the leadership at the house of Assembly was unavailable. He also asked that the youths release a letter for him to give to the house. The crowd insisted on seeing who they came for and gave an ultimatum - " It is either we march into the house by force or you bring Mark or Bankole to come out and speak to us. Bankole is not bankable."

The doors were eventually opened and the youths marched into the house where they encountered 4 layers of hand-locked policemen. Serious pushing was involved but they got in. On getting in, they were told that the House of Assembly officials had escaped through the back door. Protesters were then urged by their leaders to head out and end the rally. Angry Stella Damasus yelled "we can't just go like this. "

The youths were shocked at the act of cowardice displayed by the House of Assembly. "They ran away?? Only one who has done evil will run away at a time like this. We will come back again and the next time we come, we will shut this place down. Stop the killing in Jos. Light up Nigeria! Enough is Enough!" yelled the crowd as they headed to Eagle Square for a post rally debriefing.

AT THE END OF THE RALLY, OMOTOLA ADDRESSED THE CROWD

Nigerian Youths!! I thank you all for your co-operation. I know some of you were begged by your parents not to partake in this for safety reasons but you did just to make your voice heard. We have made history. We have done something our fathers were unable to do in their time. For the first time in history, Nigerian youths broke through a barricade of armed forces without violence, this should show you that we are making progress. I don't want you to feel like your voice doesn't count, this is not about your status..celebrity or no celebrity, we all shop at the same market. These people have taken fuel, light. As of now, they have taken tomato o. There is no pepper at the market, they want to starve us and we will not let them. I urge you all to continue to fight this fight for change.
