IBK SPACESHIPBOI MAKES AD MUSIC FOR THE 2019 GRAMMY AWARDS SHOW

The Grammys has been known to celebrate artistic excellence in the music industry, so its ad campaigns often depict the recording academy’s eccentric taste in music, coupled with its knack for something out of the ordinary. In anticipation of its 61st awards show, the recording academy released a #LetsHearIt ad on its Instagram account on Friday, Dec 7, 2018.

The 27 seconds ad featured music from none other than Nigeria’s own IBK Spaceshipboi. IBK Spaceshipboi, who is as renowned for his career as an artist as he is for his work as a producer, made history as the first Nigerian to make music for a Grammy ad.

Earlier today, IBK Spaceshipboi reposted the ad video and shared the good news via Instagram. He wrote: Music by: IBK SPACESHIPBOI. 🙌🏽🙌🙌🏿🙌🏼   I remember my first time pushing the "on" button to watch American television. I am a sucker for commercials so I watched the ads religiously so much so that my girlfriend at the time would yell from the living room "they are showing your commercials oh!". I told myself "1 day, you will create music that will be on one of these commercials". So I started paying attention to the genres of music that thrived in that industry and became inspired to create 6 pieces at the time. Fast forward 2 years later, I get a call from the awesome team at Sostereo saying the Grammy's would love to use 1 of my pieces for the 2019 commercial and would love if you could spruce it up a bit. So spruce it I did 😁 and the rest is good history. From thought to reality, my music now plays on a Grammy commercial on American television. This Warri boy from Nigeria; God writes the story, we just act it out.
#GRAMMYs #goodmusic #music #commercial #nominations #grammy2019 #greatness #rock #award #predestined #excellence #blackexcellence #dreamscometrue #yourdreamsarevalid #producer #naijatotheworld #anythingispossible #tvcommerials #theGRAMMYs #GRAMMYcommercial #african #bestband #musicflow #themusicexplorer #live #LetsHearIt

IBK Spaceshipboi should probably add HistoryMaker to his profile, considering the fact that he made history with his 2017 album titled “MUSIC FOR COMMERCIALS VOL. 1 – A SPACESHIPBOI EXPERIMENT.” The 10 minute album featuring 10 songs in 10 different genres was the first of its kind. He also made history when he created the music content for the BET CYPHER featuring Nigeria rap acts at the BET HIP-HOP AWARDS 2011. He has lived up to the Spaceshipboi name, consistently crafting something out of space. It’s no wonder that his craft is Grammy ad worthy. The Grammys is America’s biggest music awards show and we’re proud to know that IBK Spaceshipboi made commercial music for the 2019 Grammy ad. #LetsHearIt for IBK Spaceshipboi for this awesome achievement.

BANKY W, TEARGAS, FALLY IPUPA, & DADDY OWEN TO ROCK

THE MTV AFRICA MUSIC AWARDS WITH ZAIN IN LAGOS

Change is in the air as MTV and Zain lock down Banky W, Fally Ipupa, Teargas and Daddy Owen to deliver a series of spine-tingling live performances at the upcoming MTV Africa Music Awards with Zain (MAMA). The four artists are the first performers to be announced for the 2010 edition of the Awards, which take place on Saturday 11 December 2010 at the Eko EXPO Hall, Lagos, Nigeria.

Smooth R&B artist Banky W is the first Nigerian artist booked to perform at this year’s show, while South African outfit Teargas will be representing the best of South African Hip Hop on their MAMA debut. Kenya’s Daddy Owen will make his mark as the first ever Gospel singer to perform at the MAMA Awards, showcasing the unique Gospel vibe that’s successfully made the cross-over into the mainstream music consciousness. Congolese star Fally Ipupa makes his second appearance at MAMA, after his exciting collaboration with Mozambique’s Lizha James and Uganda’s Blu3 at MAMA 2009 in Kenya.

Commented Alex Okosi, Senior Vice President & Managing Director, MTV Networks Africa, “Banky W, Teargas, Fally Ipupa and Daddy Owen are all thrilling performers that epitomize the awesome spirit and passion of contemporary African musicians. Their involvement in this year’s awards is sure to guarantee that 2010 will be the most creatively inspiring and exciting MAMA event so far.”

Commented Andre Beyers, Chief Marketing Officer, Airtel Africa, “Music in all its genres or origins strikes a chord with our continent as it provides a platform to express ourselves at each turn in our daily lives. The choice of the performers at the 2010 edition shows an excellent choice of musicians with a wide appeal in the continent."

The “crown prince” of African R&B, Banky W is the stage name of Olubankole Wellington, whose ultra-smooth voice, writing and production skills and uncanny showmanship and dance skills have catapulted him into the contemporary music spotlight. Born in the United States to Nigerian parents, Banky moved to Nigeria, West Africa at the tender age of 5, getting access for the first time to the traditional African music and rhythms that are deeply rooted in his sound and which form the basis of huge hits such as Lagos Party and Strong Ting. Using his everyday struggles as a source of inspiration for his music, Banky has gained an army of followers around the world thanks to his heartfelt lyrics, larger-than-life presence and mesmerising live show, and has won numerous awards including the Urban Independent Music Award for R&B/Soul, The Nigerian Entertainment Award, and the highly coveted songwriting award from the John Lennon Foundation.

Charismatic South African Hip Hop trio Teargas is made up of Ntokozo “K.O.” Mdluli and two brothers: Ezee “Ma-E” Hanabe and Bantu “Ntukza” Hanabe. Five years after their critically-acclaimed debut album “K’shubile K’bovu”, Teargas is riding high on the success of their third album “Dark Or Blue”, which was released at the end of 2009, spawning a host of hit singles including “Go Away”, “Party 101” and “Mhlobo Wami” and winning them Best Rap Album at the 2010 South African Music Awards.

Bringing his uplifting, Gospel-fusion sound to MTV Africa Music Awards with Zain, Daddy Owen is the self-appointed creator of “Kapungala“ - a jubilant mash-up of Gospel with Kenyan genres Kapuka and Lingala. Daddy Owen has already enjoyed an amazing 2010, receiving massive radio airplay for hit tracks Tobina and Kiriro, and sweeping the boards at the 2010 Groove Awards, East Africa’s annual celebration of Gospel music, where he took home gongs for Male Artist of the Year, Song of the Year, Album of the Year (“System ya Kapungala”), Video of the Year (“Kiriro”), Central Song of the Year and Collabo of the Year (“Kiriro” Daddy Owen ft Allan Aaron & Kerah).

Fally Ipupa, nicknamed “Dicap La Merveille” (DiCaprio the marvellous) by his Congolese fans, is riding high as one of the Democratic Republic of the Congo’s most successful music exports. A silky-smooth voice, skilful songwriting skills and a larger–than-life personality that have made Ipupa a hit in Africa and on the international music scene, reaching the hearts of many with his infectious blend of soukous, ndombolo, pop and R&B.

Teargas said, “We are truly honoured and excited to be given the opportunity to perform at one of Africa’s biggest ceremonies and to reach our fans in the rest of Africa, and the world. We’d be lying if we weren’t a little nervous about being told that more than one billion people might be watching! We’re interested to see which other great African artists we’ll be collaborating with.”

Known for its awe-inspiring staging, exhilarating music and gripping musical collaborations, the MTV Africa Music Awards with Zain was created in 2008 to recognise and reward Africa’s finest contemporary musicians. PLUS ONE - the next big thing

One is certain to hit a brick wall at the mention of a moniker like this one. The name Plus One will definitely come as a vague, unimaginative one. May be like me, you would have thought that such a name would have been appropriate for a pharmaceutical product or something. But wait till you meet the owners of the name. Then you are most likely to reconsider and ask yourself this popular question, what's in the name after all? That seems to be the most probable
perception of the trio, Plus One at first contact, but beyond that, it's a combination of immeasurable potentials for these three young men.

The trio of Chidiebere Ukaegbu, Henry Ukaegbu and Michael Eze was drawn together by the same passion-music. The group met while in secondary school at Oregun High School in 2005. They had nursed and nurtured their love and passion for music as toddlers until they met and like magnet they naturally pulled at each other and stuck together as a group. Chidi and Michael found each other first and even without a name, both youths went round kicking shows in their school as well as others in their neighbourhood. The third part of the group, Henry came later and his talent obviously came as plus and eventually supplied the group with its name - PLUS ONE.

Their very first single in Tin Kon Ko is very hot, attracting rave reviews and mad airplay on both radio and tv. The song was produced by SARS and Puffy T while the video was shot by Clarence Peters. The Afro hip-hop group is basking on their incredible talent and personality to deliver them to the top of their game. The full-length album of a tentative 10-12 songs is billed to drop in March 2010 date. The trio is being signed on to Paco Music imprint and management handled by Blarque Brotha Entertainment.

Do not judge a book by its cover is perhaps a wise advice which rings true with the group, Plus One, because beyond the obviously ordinary name is a tight group who knows exactly what time it is and they are committed to carving a niche for themselves in the industry. From what is discernable in the group thus far, what they have to offer is much more than Plus One, in fact plus some might just be more accurate a name for the group if their combined talent is anything to judge by.

Mo ti dun ju - Nemo

Nemo is a new artist who is part of the upcoming UK based unsigned firm, Playaz Connect Entertainment (PCE). Nemo who has been close friends with the C.E.O of PCE, CJ aka Mr.Scatter, got down with the movement ending last year. Currently based in Nigeria, Nemo is in touch with his Naija side, mixing the native flows with external lyrics. Watch out for this kid. The song speaks for itself.

He is currently working on new material and an upcoming mixtape is not far-fetched. Its P.C.E baby
